The Sci-Fi Heavy Metal Beer: Craftwerk 3 Floyds

Approximately 30 miles southeast of the Chicago Loop in the small town of Munster, Indiana, lies 3 Floyds, one of the most well-respected breweries in the world. At the helm is owner Nick Floyd, who has helped craft the brewery's completely unique image... and its beers. Before 3 Floyds came along, craft beer brand image was usually synonymous with trees, fairies, and the like, but 3 Floyds injected some darkness and heavy metal into the scene. With head brewer Chris Boggess now helping Nick run the show, the brewery has expanded to include a distillery and even a hops field. Enjoy this inside look at one of the most revered breweries in the game.

+Diggnuts After trying pretty much over a thousand different craft beers over the last 5-6 years I have figured out one thing, after a while, it gets old, especially when they are so expensive, and really make people pack on the pounds with the amount of sugar in those beers. It's funny, many "craft ales" are pure shit, meanwhile people will call commercial beer "crappy beer" simply because they owned by big corporations, which is sad because literally everyone, especially hipsters, consume and spend like crazy, so they think buying craft beer is changing the world?! WTF!?!?!? Fake ass hippies these beer snobs. On a hot ass day, the last thing I want is some dark and bitter beer that has the same amount of calories as a chocolate bar. I'll drink a 40 of Olde English 800 along with a Lagunitas Hop Stupid, beer snobs must DIE!

These dudes are the best, I once picked up a 6 pack of gumball head that went bad somehow, and they over nighted a 6 pack of fresh gumball head the very next day when i wrote a email to them. Awesome customer service and great selection of beers. Their Chicagos best brewery and theyre not even located in the same state let alone city.

Honestly the most memorable time I’ve ever had at a brewery. I remember the bartenders were laid back and not cocky which is always a huge plus. They were playing records that seemed to fit their mood and how busy it was on that rainy humid day. When I entered at open they were playing Didjits Hey Judester and then switched to the Fela Kuti Zombie EP.

Fuck yeah. I'm from Toronto, Ontario and was just in Chicago for a few days; saw some 3 Floyds bottles for the first time and was blown away. So creative and awesome. Didn't get to try any, unfortunately because the place I was shopping was kind of shitty and most of the bottles were out of date, so I didn't want to get a poor first impression. Can't wait to go back and try some soon, though! I really admire these folks.

+ii Smack it went over your head, coors light shouldn't be allowed in the building. They claim to love craft beer and make amazing craft beer. While coors light is considered shitty cheap beer by anyone, it's common knowledge. If it's a coors that part of the staff was drinking or one of their friends then that does mean they allow low quality beer in a high quality brewery and somebody there preferred coors to their beer which is hilarious. They would've moved that beer out of shot if they realized. I think they like coors and whiskey and getting wasted more than their personal line.
