Thank you so much! This made me understand combustion so well! Excited to see more!!

"you should do this outside" goes into a garage
@TheSciGuys8 жыл бұрын
+Leo Madero we say to do it outside or in a well ventilated area. Our garage is very well ventilated.

Isnt' there a risk to blow up the gallon? Can it work with 70deg. diluted ethanol or 100% ethyl alcohol?

Can only oxygen be used or or other flammable gases too?
@TheSciGuys9 жыл бұрын
Didier Serrano Moreno Well oxygen is required for combustion in combination with a flammable fuel. If you are hoping to replace the flammable rubbing alcohol with a different compound you could try methanol. Just be very careful and take all safety precautions. There are chemicals known as oxidizers which when heated release oxygen to be used in combustion. An example of an oxidizer can be found in our experiment video on sparklers underwater.

Can we use a water bottle?
@TheSciGuys9 жыл бұрын
Nisa Salma If you are talking about a small water bottle then I wouldn't recommend it. A water bottle has a much thinner layer of plastic and will probably melt very easily. We were able to find empty water jugs for around 10 dollars at a local grocery store. Make sure the jug is dry because a wet container will cause the fire to burn longer and will melt the container.

The Sci Guys Hey it's me again! Can you please do this experiment ? You should try to put dry ice in many different liquids other than water such as the liquids you used in the density episode and the viscosity episode. You should see how dry ice reacts in different liquids instead of water !
@TheSciGuys9 жыл бұрын
Daiyan Mahfuz We will look into doing this one. Not sure when we will film it but I will add it to our list for this season.

Hi Guys and Gals. My Gr 6 science/chemistry student daughter asked me why (and how) substances ignite (and explode). I can find all kinds of internet source information but nothing explains exactly 'why' or 'how' substances and elements possess explosive instability. Maybe you can help. Thanks!

Mr Stacy Jay It's great to hear of your daughters interest. We will be launching a series where we answer viewer questions and I would love to add this one as one of the topics because it does need a bunch of explanation. If I can come up with something short and clear I will reply to your post here hopefully soon.
