I'm legally disabled. Capitalism consistently tells me I'm worth less as a human being. That should give you some idea.

The whole "high functioning" term is just relating to how everyone else is affected by you. It doesn't take into account the experience of the autistic person themselves. It doesn't matter how the autistic person is feeling in particular moments, nor how they may feel/react once they're home. It focuses on whether peopled are inconvenienced by the autistic person or not; or how much they are inconvenienced. Can you be convincing enough to seem typical, no matter how detrimental it is to your health; despite how draining and difficult day to day is?....Then you're stamped as high functioning and that comes with a whole pile of issues. It's no better referring to other autistic people as low functioning either. Their self worth, intelligence and so much more, is being undermined. Its higher and lower support needs, that's what we should focus on. No one is lesser than or more than. We need varying levels/types of support (which can vary day to day and depend on situations). Autistic people are forced to accommodate themselves, so others aren't uncomfortable. Which just leaves the autistic people being uncomfortable....but that's seen as okay because they aren't hearing from us!😃 I guess this all links to how capitalism views/treats people. One of my annoying traits: long ass comments, which I could have easily made longer 😂 Ps- This isn't to be hateful or have a go at anyone using those terms. It's ingrained in our society and I'm passionate about it 😅

@@pattyofurniture I'm not actually sure, I just start to worry that its coming off as me having a go at someone, rather than me just waffling 😅 My passionate info dumping may read differently to someone else. I do have a habit of over explaining myself as well, because I'm so used to being misunderstood 😬

@@LauraDora124 my personal rules of engagement for the internet usually prevent me from saying anything at all and I never say anything negative about anyone yet I still manage to get piled on regularly by people who are mad at what they think I meant rather than what I actually said. Seems like the world is full of people who are just waiting for an excuse to fight and they think anything they don't immediately agree with is an invitation. I'll try your technique. Perhaps it'll make engaging more pleasant.

29:50 I used to work in a pub and I had been vomiting (only stopped an hour before I called up) and they tried to get me to go in. I was working in the kitchen. They were more than happy for me to be around food that goes out to people when I had been throwing up just an hour previously. I handed in my notice then and there 😂

The country where I'm from (Finland) had been considering providing a universal salary before the pandemic. It would have provided everyone with a living wage, but the counter argument has always been "well then no one would work, if it's optional". -To counter that I would and I do daily. It's like non-profit and volunteer work doesn't exist. Also I saw a KZbin video touching on this topic by RickiHirsch called "alienation conspiracism and finding happiness" would recommend. So no to capitalism, I'm not a fan.

I’m disabled and living off of an inheritance and yet I’ve been doing volunteer work, raising orphaned kittens. Having financial security allows me to do undervalued altruistic labor that I enjoy. Humans aren't meant to work a 9 to 5, but they also don’t thrive doing ‘nothing’ either.

Absolutely! That's why a lot of retired people do voluntary work. Because it gives you a sense of purpose to help others and be part of a community.@@ookamiblade6318

I recommend a real socialist's opinion on this - YaBoiHakim made a great video about it. I don't really like UBI, because I don't think that things that you need are something to be bought - in another words, in an ideal world, you wouldn't even need that money, but it would be just for free. Not to mention, UBI in a country with capitalist mode of production is still useless

Yes! People like being needed and helping! I’d volunteer more often if I felt financially secure I’m also disabled due to autism/adhd mixed with chronic stress for the past 10 years so I can’t work full time (but the swedish welfare office would tell you otherwise)

20:39 People have actually studied when your happiness caps related to your salary! It’s a bit different per country but it was something like 75 000 Eur per year It’s not exact or anything, but even capping it at 200 000 EUR would probably make such a difference

If there would be an option of half-like (or "middle like"), I would click that. Sorry, but on the other hand, you say that the flaws of capitalism is WITHIN the system, and than you say "it's not like we have another option" - no we do, and it's called socialism. I mean, I know that it's SciGuys and you don't want to be ideological, however, when the system is flawed than social democracy/lesser evil system won't work. I swear to god, these champagne socialists never read Marx... And that's the thing, I am glad that you guys are class-conscious, but at some point, capitalism will fail and revolution will bring about socialism. And, Engels and Marx proved it scientifically - as another "epoch" of humanity, through anthropological and sociologist methods, such as - dialectic materialism. In another words, we should have one and same goal - socialist mode of production (where workers own the means of production), and I bet that we share that, but being "too champagne" about it - we don't disagree ideologically, but disagree with our ways? And that is sad, as no socialist wants a "bloody and violent revolution", but sometimes violence against the oppressors is needed (that is the only violence that I agree with - a revolutionary bottom-to-top violence - do you think that Civil Rights Movement and/or Stonewall were peaceful? no, they were not - and that's why revolutionary socialism is the only way - we are not cold-hearted violence-wanting people).

Also, while watching this podcast further, I might have been a bit more reactionary. Sorry guys, I actually like it. It's just that, it's similar to liking Bernie Sanders - at the end of the day, he is not a true socialist, but just a petty social democrat. And I keep seeing all these leftist populist and it's just really frustrating. However, I shouldn't hav been so harsh - Left Unity, at the end of the day!

I haven’t rewatched the episode, but I sincerely doubt any of us would say there was “no option but capitalism” unless the statement was made in jest. Truly unsure where these criticisms are coming from, as you’re making points I’m certain were made in this episode (if not this one, then certainly many others). Honestly your elitist demeanour and pretty baseless assumptions are doing nothing but harm to your point - which itself is perfectly agreeable.

@@SciGuysSorry that I'm late: It was more about the revisionist essence of your ways (literally champagne socialism, lol), which I disagree with, but respect, because at the end of the day, we might have the same goal... As I've written in my second comment, I guess I was too harsh, and I don't want to come off as "elitist", however, expecting that revisionist reforms will "reform capitalism into socialism" the peaceful way, is just naive. There needs to be a revolution, there is no other way...
