🔴 How does sulfur work in soil and reduce soil pH?
The cheapest way to reduce soil pH is to add sulfur to the soil. First, when sulfur is converted into sulfuric acid by bacteria, it lowers soil pH and increases plant root access to many nutrients.
🔴 How is soil pH adjusted?
Most fruit trees like a soil pH between 6.0 and 6.5, but there are exceptions. Blueberry prefers acidic soils with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5 to produce a larger crop.
🔴 Why should you adjust the pH of your soil before planting?
It is very important to use sulfur at least one year before planting.
🔴 What is the effect of soil pH on the nutrients in it?
It is interesting to know that it is only in the pH range of 5.5 to 7 that all the nutrients are found in abundance.
🔴 What season is the best time to add sulfur to the soil?
The best time to mix sulfur with soil and get the highest yield is in spring and autumn. You should know that this is a biological process (a process carried out by the environment) that is done slowly and does not happen like a fast chemical reaction.
🔴 Why should you not drown the soil during irrigation?
Soil should not be waterlogged or saturated (anaerobic), often in standing water (permanently waterlogged) hydrogen sulfide is produced when bacteria break down plant and animal matter.
🔴 What is the limit of adding sulfur after planting?
Sulfur cannot be easily added to the soil after the presence of plants. It should be applied superficially, which slows down the pH reduction rate and takes a long time to react with the soil.
🔴 What happens if the pH of the soil is not adjusted for the plant?
Don't doubt that not adjusting the PH will make your tree or plant susceptible to all kinds of diseases, and its growth will certainly be slower than the ideal state.
🔴 Limiting excessive use of sulfur
Never add more than 180 kg of sulfur per hectare at one time to the soil where your plants are growing. When a large amount of sulfur is needed, you can do this over several years.
🔴 Is it harmful to add sulfuric acid to agricultural soil?
Most people want to change the pH of the soil very quickly. For this you need to add acid to the soil. Some growers have even watered their soil with diluted sulfuric acid to lower the pH.
🔴 Adding sulfur according to soil texture
Usually, the pH of tap water is between 6.5 and 8.5. Lime is usually used for alkalizing. Alkaline water is more beneficial than other waters by effectively neutralizing the acid in your body.
🔴 Table of amount of sulfur required for each soil texture
Clay and organic matter act as a buffer, absorbing and releasing mineral ions.
🔴 How to distinguish soil texture from cation exchange capacity (CEC)?
Growers who have high pH soils in their location and want to grow fruit trees or acid-tolerant plants should be aware that soil texture will determine how much sulfur your soil needs.
