General guidelines: Please be respectful to me and others ❤🦜 ⚠️Also since this video was a little more informational, keep in mind my research may not be perfect and take whatever I say with a grain of salt- It's never my intention to mislead anybody! I took a lot of things to the extreme because I thought it'd be funny, which might lead to minor inaccuracies... Please always do your own research if you're interested!! THANK U FOR YOUR COOPERATION ‼️Notable corrections: - I was unaware Teflon in cooking utilities was largely discontinued. I played up Linda's negligence because it was funny. Feeding Blu chocolate was all her tho - The evolutionary history of birds actually began around 170 million years ago, not 66 million - that was the end of the Cretaceous. I think... (I'm not a paleontologist) - Blu and Jewel aren't domestic and feral respectively, Blu is tamed and Jewel is untamed. They're both wild parrots, and domestication takes a very long time (like chickens) I should've been more careful with that one sorry 😅

as a bird kid, i remember being shocked and appalled that the animators cared enough about accuracy to have the birds pick up objects w their feet instead of their wings, but still showed blu eating *two* types of chocolate (which contains a compound that is very toxic to birds) edit: actually that reminds me- there’s a deleted scene where blu initially refuses to try a papaya, saying he “prefers his fruit the natural way- from a cereal box” (implying that linda never thought to feed him fruit, but let him eat sugary cereal). i’m astonished that this guy is still alive by the time he meets jewel.

@Eloraurora Oh absolutely. Basically any place a bird can't preen (feather maintenance) themselves is a friendly zone. Because they NEED help from other birds to preen there. The head and neck are perfect for petting. But anywhere else is mating behavior. Which leads to a very frustrated and hormonal bird because obviously it can't mate with you. I've sadly noticed a pattern with owners of big parrots like macaws and cockatoos, petting completely wrong. I'm very happy to see someone else mention this. More people need to know this.

Unfortunately, unlike in the movie, Presley was depressed and pretty much neglected. Hot take: Rio 2 should have ended in bird divorce. The whole movie basically just highlights how Jewel and Blu are actually unhappy with each other and Blu just puts up with her to make her happy even though as a domestic housepet he's clearly uncomfortable in the wild. Jewel even comes off as a jerk by calling him "selfish" when he didn't even want to be there! And now it turns out they didn't need to be together after all, they're not the last of their species and Jewel meets her childhood crush who she still has feelings for and Blu wants to go back to Minnesota. There's even a deleted scene where Blu says during an argument "I thought I was your one and only, but I guess I was just the only one." They should have kept that in.

I also think this movie, at its core shows that a lot of the trafficking is done for international "clients", and tries to show people from other countries that Brazilians do care about our wildlife and ecosystem; I say this bc I've been seeing so many americans attacking individual people on the internet for the deforestation and subsequent mass extinction that have been happening in Brazil, that is for the most part out of our hands, and a decision made by the 1% to keep themselves rich and the rest of us dead

I've been obsessed with Rio for like a year now and you don't know how much I loved seeing more analysis of this one talking about that more scientific side, in general there aren't many Rio videos but of this specific genre was killing me of joy. It just turn me to realize that parrots are actually pretty cool animals I'm also glad to see how you analyze the parts where the movie did well in depicting the animals while making corrections so it's in the sense of informing and in a nice way. Sometimes I come across people who also overanalyze “scientific” mistakes in animal movies/media but they sound terribly mean spirited and in such a sickeningly uncomfortable way.

2:30 As much as the glaring (and potentially harmful) scientific inaccuracies bother me, I have nothing but praise for the animation team. They really did an excellent job capturing the way parrots move, especially in how they sway and bob their heads. They clearly studied birds nine ways from sunday in order to get the movements just right. I only wish the writers had been half as dedicated to researching these magnificent animals.

if i had a nickel for every time the "last of our species" plot was used in blueskys films and they narrowly avoided inbreeding due to finding a miracle herd or mammoths or whole flock tribe of birds, i'd have two nickels. which isnt alot. but it's weird that it happened twice /ref

Isn’t it only inbreeding if both couples are not related? Also both couples had kids so…
@sunshine-dz6xj12 күн бұрын
@@jakespacepiratee3740 inbreeding is when a couple that is closely related produces offspring, the closer they are related the more inbreeding there is. the main character couples having kids was not inbreeding. however, they were the last of their species so the only way for them to actually avoid extinction was to make their kids reproduce with each other or them (the parents) which is very close inbreeding. it can be fixed with time and in captivity, which is exactly what's happening to these macaws in real life, and it is the only way to save an almost extinct species. but since the characters of these movies are humanised and they are made for kids, Bluesky had to find a way to avoid showing kids how siblings form romantic relationships and have kids or even implying that this is what happens after the main plot because that looks like normalising incest
@crispy_wonders12 күн бұрын
@@jakespacepiratee3740I’m pretty sure they’re talking about blu and jewels children, which would have had to breed with each other to continue the species if they didn’t manage to find an entire hidden flock

Not even a second in and I see both Disney being called out for their anti-LGBT activities, and a recommendation to pirate movies. I've never subscribed before I even watched the video before. Update: I'm so glad I found this channel in its infancy, I can tell this bird is going places.

I love the implication you're putting forth that Rafael somehow gaslit his wife into thinking SHE laid all those eggs, after I guess stealing them from his mistresses. It's a lot harder for guys to pull that sort of trick.

Really cool breakdown, girl. I learned a lot of stuff from this and was very excited when you brought up the clay-eating bit with the macaws, as I've been kinda obsessed with the idea ever since I saw Triceratops doing it in Prehistoric Planet. Also, yes, I did do the Nigel laugh along with you. You weren't alone. Anyways, you've earned a new subscriber.
