This was fascinating. As a Scottish fiddle player I always found these kind of rhythms to be basically intrinsic to violin music. I didn’t realise they were considered in any way unusual.

Very interesting - I'd always noticed that odd bowing in certain Scottish tunes but didn't know what it was. Thank you!

Lovely! I'll be visiting Cape Breton in a few weeks. I hope I can find a session or performance somewhere!

Thank you for this video! Working through one of your books, Folk Fiddle, with a student. We're both classically trained so this bowing is quite foreign.

Just started playing fiddle and loving your channel. Been playing guitar for 30 years but thought I'd give my dad's old fiddle a go... very much enjoying it. Your vids have really helped, thanks 😊

I have request, chris, if i may be so bold. The song 'Country Honk' by the Rolling Stones. I can't find a video about how to play it anywhere. What do u think? 😊

Loving the vids, btw

Hi Crispin. Have you seen my vid on Honky Tonk Women? To be honest I think learning that would be more valuable than copying the fiddle solo on Country Honk. The techniques used for that solo are covered in many of my other blues and bluegrass videos.

I've learned that "Rosses Highlands" (1) has this. Otherwise it doesn't sound like anything.

Just that one little rhythm has Scotland written all over it!

Did you play as a folk duo with your brother in the 1970's?

Hi Gary. Are you from around Huddersfield? I played some gigs with my elder brother Dave at places like the Nook in Slaithwaite. Believe it or not, we went by the name "Animated Rucksack"!

I'm from Holmfirth. I used to be in a band called Jigby in the late '70's and '80's. We ran a folk club called Stamps and I think you and your brother played there @@TheFiddleChannel

@@garryrushworth2362 You probably also had Bernie and Pete Hartley? I think they also ran a club at the Nook.
