I've seen Scott Henderson live on three occasions, once with Tribal Tech, once with Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers and with his own trio, they were some of the best shows i have ever seen. His guitar playing is just out of this world, he really channels in the spirits of Allan Holdsworth and Jeff Beck but still sounding like himself. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest guitarists on the planet and it was a great honor to meet and have a picture with him, he's really down to earth with an amazing sense of humour. Fantastic interview.

Great interview Rick! Scott was a teacher/counselor when I attended GIT in '84-'85. He was awesome then, and has only gotten more incredible as the years have gone by. One of my biggest highlights of that year was getting to sit and watch Scott play Real Book tunes for hours with the likes of Frank Gambale, et. al. It was an amazing time in my life for sure!!

I had the opportunity to watch Scott Henderson's trio with Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers some 6 years ago (of which I took a video and DID NOT upload to KZbin, nor ever will :D). The venue was kind of like a music hall, so it wasn't intimate, but it wasn't huge either. The warmth from these gentlemen, especially Mr. Berlin and Mr. Henderson was palpable. I certainly hope they return to my neck of the woods.

Excellent interview, thanks so much! One of the many things I love about Scott Henderson is that he's so incredibly Real and down-to-earth. I believe that this quality really comes across in his playing, which to my ear always sounds so truthful. I also happen to think he writes great tunes. His playing and his tunes are so much about expression, which is something I believe to largely be missing from the music scene nowadays. (Music might be a big forest, but most of its trees are sick.) And btw, great questions!

I've been a fan since hearing Scott with Chick Corea's Elektric Band in '86. I saw a performance they did at a festival, I think Montreux. I was totally blown away. Scott's a total pro, one of the most distinctive stylist out there, and he's only gotten better. I can't say that for most players, even most great players. I find it amazing that just two years after attending GIT he got the gig with Corea.

I absolutely love this series, and I would love to hear you talk with some more jazz guitarists, I think Julian Lage would be amazing, he's so increadibly talented and accomplished so much at such a young age. I also think that someone like Chris Thile, the mandolin player (Check him out if you don't know who he is, he's done stuff with Brad Mehldau, Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma to name a few) as I consider him one of the worlds greatest musicians, seeing an interview with him would be incredible! Of course there are others I'd love to see on here, but I understand you can't get everyone, people like Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lage Lund, Marius Neset and Jasper Hoiby are others I think would be absolutely fantastic on your show. Thank you for your great contribution to this community :)

Scott is a freakin genius. His knowledge and technique are outstanding. The iPhone dilemma: we used to see Eric Johnson, Holdsworth and others back in Houston, and their crew and management would be hawking and confiscating cassettes. It was the best way, although some of the bootlegs we came away with are priceless. The phone thing is ridiculous though

I was in the last ever Miami Plaboy Club around 1984-5. Dont ask. I remember seing this incredible covers band, with a tall guitar player with an afro. He was playing an Ovation electric guitar and he was extremely versatile and amazing. I didnt know Scott at the time, but years later that memory came back to me, and I could swear it was him at the Playboy club. Anybody can shed some light? Else I will always wonder who the killer guitar was

Scott's a total pro. He was always great, and he's evolved incredibly well. I first heard him on a record insert from Guitar Player around '86, about the time he was with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. I also saw him play with Chick in a jazz fest on cable around the same time, then became familiar with Gambale when Henderson departed to reform Tribal Tech. Both are dynamite players, but Frank was a better fit for Chick's project and Scott seemed happier in Tribal Tech and working with Zawinul. What I love about Scott's playing is how natural it sounds. You hear a maestro totally at one with his instrument.
