You should have invested in a camper van instead of a milk float with all the travelling you do with your channel !!

Such a shame that Spatha grass took over the sands in the late 90s. As a kid I always thought it used to have a little Mediterranean feel to it, always felt like we had gone abroad and loved how the trains whizzed by so close too. But in a world of overtourism, Grange is just that little gem that is still beautiful but just not overly busy either.

I was born and raised in Decatur, Illinois. There was an odd building by the local reservoir with swimming pools that I never knew as a boy in the 1960s - it might have already been shut down by my day - but last I visited the top floor was a restaurant with adequate if slightly expensive food, and the depths of former swimming pools were inaccessible. There’s a strange mixture of persistence and change when I revisit places from my past.

You need to visit Northumberland. Visit high newton by the sea: we go there for my wife’s birthday. Newton hall is amazing. The also have posh cabins in the grounds. Called the garden rooms. If you need more info or pics. Let me know. Has a little pub too called the joiners arms. Can’t go wrong. 👍🏻

Always made sure I had a "Beesting" cake from the Hazelmere bakery when up visiting the in-laws. As mentioned before, always stocked up on coils of Cumberland sausage from Higginsons The Butchers.... what I'd call a proper sausage!!! If you do return, try it - all the meat and pies from "Higgy's" is highly recommended. In-laws used to always take us to the "Amber Court" Chinese when we were there. Eaten a couple of times in the Hazelmere Tea Room & Restaurant - food was always good as was service. "Fish Over Chips" used to do a good fish supper - eaten in there a couple of times. As for the Costa - that used to be the bank - blame the closures of local branches by the banks on this, rather than the local council!

You are correct. Ducks/Birds better eat the corn before its made into bread. You are right about spending you dosh and not leaving it to the Treasury to waste. When you get to 77 ,as I am, that is how I think all the time. Those Turkish Barbers seem to travel a long way! Pork pies are cold best.

Was in Grange a couple of months back with family. My brother-in-law tried to pay for parking at the railway station via an app but couldn't get a signal and there was no ticket machine. However a lady said that you could pay for parking at the station ticket office, which he did and saved £2 as well. I recommend getting the train to Arnside, the first station towards Lancaster from Grange and enjoy domr lovely views as the train crosses the Kent Estuary, not forgetting to sample fish and chips from Arnside Fish & Chip Shop just a short walk from the station. Regards Ian
