For the most part, MLS fans are fairly timid compared to soccer leagues in Europe, South America and Asia. Fortunately, the fans of Seattle buck that trend. Being from Southern California, I flew up for the weekend to experience the best pre-game and in game atmosphere in the MLS and Seattle's soccer fans don't disappoint.
Sixty minutes prior to kickoff, fans gather in Pioneer Square and march their way to the stadium singing songs and chanting along the way. The band normally stops in front of the stadium and plays, too. It's the kind of experience you'd expect in the South or Midwest for college football, definitely not a normal MLS thing. This was prior to the May 2011 match with Sporting Kansas City.
Seattle fans - thanks for making soccer count in America!
