Wrong! I'd rather SEC teams play 8 conference games and 2 power 5 teams out of conference. SEC teams that have only been playing 8 conference games beat 9 conference game teams in the playoffs and bowl games that vast majority of the time. The SEC can do what it wants. The playoff will show who the best conference is in any given season. Sankey is powerful because he represents the SEC, but he derives his power from the schools, so he has to answer to someone too, just like all of us.

Yes, SOS matters, which is why the SEC should go to a 9 game schedule, as any losses would probably be accounted for by the playoffs committee because of the increased difficulty of the scheduling. And to be honest, I don't give much of a shit about that anyways, what matters much more is the fact that games like Auburn vs Georgia or Bama vs Tennessee will not be protected. What in the hell are we doing? Rivalries and passion is what makes College Football great, not the playoffs bullshit. We are losing what makes the game great if we don't have these rivalries.

RIP competitive noncon games. I prefer playing a quality noncon team, it gives you a measure of conference strength. The outcome of Bama-Texas and LSU-FSU will tell us something, or at least make a lot of interesting convo. And those definitely won't get scheduled with 9 conf games.
@dangerousdylan6262 Жыл бұрын
What about Auburn vs Penn? That was an exciting blowout...
@anthonystarke893 Жыл бұрын
Yeah but with a 12 team playoff, you'll get those competitive non-cons. Just on the back end of the schedule. And it's actually preferable that way because you know both teams will be at least pretty good. No more scheduling non-cons 5 years out and hoping both teams remain competitive going into the season. If you don't add a 9th game and you add 2 teams to the conference, you're gonna get one of two things. 1. Death of smaller rivalries in the SEC or 2. And even longer wait for teams to play a home and home. Like UGA has yet to travel to Kyle Field despite the fact that Texas A&M has been in the SEC for over a decade. South Carolina hasn't traveled to Tuscaloosa since 2009. Florida hasn't been to Auburn since 2011. LSU hasn't been to Athens since 2013. Now add Texas and Oklahoma. The 3-6-6 format would have fixed all of that and kept 3 of each school's biggest rivalries. It just makes the most sense.

@blackbeardsghost6588 Жыл бұрын
Yeah . . . I would love for Georgia to stop playing teams like Oregon, Clemson, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Arizona State and Oklahoma State during the regular season. Let's drop THAT game, and play another SEC team . . . and for that matter, we could just drop Georgia Tech, although lately they are a cupcake too. Then people can call us brave for playing some bottom-of-the-barrel-SEC team. The only teams UGA didn't play in 2021-22 from the SEC were 11th ranked Ole Miss, unranked LSU, unranked Texas A&M, and unranked Mississippi State. Which one did you want Georgia to pick up? (Ole Miss, of COURSE.) In 2022, the only teams UGA didn't play were 5th ranked Alabama (we probably SHOULD have played them instead of TCU, but we don't control that), unranked Ole Miss, unranked Texas A&M and unranked Arkansas. Brando would pick Alabama (which would probably happen in the 12 team playoff anyway). What people really WANT is to watch UGA and Bama, or Georgia and LSU, and now Georgia and Oklahoma or Texas, so they can "eliminate" another SEC team from the playoffs. Problem is, if any of those teams are any good, they'd probably make a 12 team playoff ANYWAY, win or lose.

I love the show but this is a very very bad take. Why would the SEC agree to playing harder schedules for nothing in return when we have seen time and time again that the playoff committee does not value strength of schedule like they should. To the playoff committee, you are what your record says you are, and on that note your point about a 9 and 3 SEC team trying to get into the playoff versus a 9 and 3 other conference team that played nine conference games, I hate to break it to you, but eight conference games in the SEC is way harder than nine conference games in any other conference, it's the harsh truth.

The 9th conference game does not improve the schedule. You are completely missing how the conference schedules. 1/3 of the SEC are bottom dwellers. They do not strengthen the schedule for bubble teams. 1/2 of the SEC teams are below average. They probably aren't strengthening the schedule for bubble teams. What does this mean? A 9th conference game is just as likely to hurt your strength of schedule as boost it with a top 1/3 of the conference. An AD could do so much better controlling scheduling by playing that Oregon than just relying on the strict rotation through the good, bad, and ugly of the conference that the commissioner employs. And no... UGA vs Miss St is not a better matchup than UGA vs Notre Dame, Clemson, Oregon, UNC, UCLA, FSU, Louisville, Ohio State.

@@glockman9c I agree with you from a strategic standpoint, but this is an entertainment product. ESPN payed $1 billion per year to get ratings. You are going to have 16 teams and not even play half the league. At the very least, abandon the 1AA game everyone plays and play another power 5 noncon game. With that said, it is a bunch of BS when other conferences have teams with similar records and the committee treats them the same as the SEC. I’m an Notre Dame fan. There have been years when ND won 11 and 12 games, but probably would have only won 8 or 9 if they played in the SEC. On the flip side, the SEC can be top heavy. Ole Miss and Florida have had good records in the past, but get smoked in the bowl game. Obviously that doesn’t happen to UGA, Bama (and LSU when they are good), but sometimes the SEC isn’t as good top to bottom as people think.

@@chasejackson7248 I appreciate that UGA isn’t scared to play good teams. They schedule Clemson, Oregon and ND in the noncon. College football fans are weird now. I’m an ND fan, when they put together a schedule, I look for the great games, not an easy schedule. Look at Michigan. They don’t play any tough opponents in the noncon and Michigan fans defend it.
