What am I doing wrong every time I patch this file all I get is the new title screen on the game but it won’t run?

Which version of SML did you apply the patch into? If you are using the first revision or V1.0 (a.k.a. the one that does not have the "noise drums" on the level clear and player down fanfares) then that's not the right version. You must get the second revision or V1.1
