Love deep reefs, saw the exhibit on the shallower end of these at the california academy of sciences a few years ago and all the neat technological advances allowing divers to explore mesophotic coral depths safely. These even deeper reef are super cool, and sad how bottom trawling trashes them
@NaturalWorldFacts3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a fascinating exhibit! It really is a remarkable feat that so much has been uncovered about these ecosystems in such a short amount of time. They’re a hidden world that many thought couldn’t possibly exist! Reefs in cold waters, far from sunlight. But nature always finds a way to surprise us. And we always find a way to destroy it in return..
@Evolved_Skeptic3 жыл бұрын
Not merely sad, but *CRIMINAL!* That any nation fails to fully prosecute fishermen - & especially corporations - caught using this unacceptably indescriminate fishing technique, is an indictment of so-called justice systems & their governments corrupt support of corporate greed, over the preservation of irreplacable natural marine ecosystems.

It's truly wonderful editing through dozens of hours of MBARI, NOAA and a lot of other ocean research, fisheries and conservation footage... these agencies are happy for others to use their deep sea "content" with only a reference mention. They are magical to watch all together, especially with the narration of the marine biologists and scientists as they come across the species, some for the first time. 😀.. their excitement and science nerd humour is irresistible. Such color from a place with no light. I was thinking that in that cold, dark absence of photosynthesis, and poor food supply these coral are centuries, if not millenia old. To be destroyed for fish, which no small amount will be thrown away is beyond my skill for words. The deep sea Orange Roughy was nearly eliminated because it reproduced so slowly. Maybe unfairly, when I saw things destroyed without regard for others I thought China. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see what I would never be able to see otherwise.

It's how Chinese fishing fleets work. It's not just that they're violating the rights of sovereign nations by invading their local fishing regions, it's not just that they're stealing from local fishing folk, its that they're DESTROYING the fishing grounds. Then they move on ...
@DidgeridooStudio3 жыл бұрын
Looking up close, one would never that it was not the a reef near the surface of the ocean. These are wonderlands, forever isolated from our world. What can we do to end the trawling? What can we do to preserve what's left? We must never go there. Instead, we must leave them in peace, and then, perhaps one day, they will bring life back to the reefs of the surface. 🙏♻️☮️🦈
