There is something about Mark Hiller that engages me, I always love the way he talks about his companies products. Some of the products are a bit hit and miss though but I guess that depends on what the airlines priorities are and how far the can push comfort/cost/weight equation.

Fun fact: SATS originally stood for "Singapore Air Terminal Services", & like some other gov't-founded companies that later privatised, its name is originally an acronym for more common nouns e.g. DBS -> Dev't Bank of Singapore, ST Engineering-> S'pore Technologies Engineering, Singtel -> S'pore Telecommunications (formerly TAS -> Telecom Authority of Singapore - telephone risers in older buildings in this country sometimes sport its logo as an identifying symbol, probably as they were built back when TAS was the only telco/carrier available, before the country's telecommunications market was opened up to competition by other, private companies). Besides airline catering, it caters in non-aviation markets too e.g. MICE, military camp cookhouses & offers airport ground handling services as well

Great video ! The numbers given surprised me (especially that business seat). That oled display looks incredible. However, those economy seats look so so uncomfortable, they're so fin and slim and I really prefer a proper table than that flimsy looking cup holder. I can already picture that thing sliding off and you burn yourself with hot drinks (or get wet anyway). Okay idea on paper but not in reality (that's what I think)

Very interesting to see beyond Seats IFE and Catering there also different companies for passenger amenities such hygine kits, plates and utensil, and even stikcers which really surprised me since I though they are manufactured by either the aircraft manufacturer or the airline itself!

Recaro is like make the seat as thin as the thinnest cellphone. Airlines next would most likely start shrinking legroom next to whre you could cram an additional 1 or 2 rows in the back.

I came across this video by accident, and it reminds me of when 'The Carpetbagger' did a video about a trade show where manufacturers come together to demonstrate and show off their rides and attractions to representatives of amusement parks and funfairs. I do like how some of them mention weight savings as, if I recall correctly, that would equate to higher fuel efficiency. (1:02) Thanks to KZbin recommending me lots of car videos, I've mostly known Recaro for car seats. I find it interesting that they produce aircraft seats too! (8:55) I've recognised SATS from them having a building near or within the Changi Airport complex, where they presumably produce meals for people on flights out of Singapore. I'm surprised to see that it was their first time exhibiting. (9:59) Yep, that would make sense. I imagine the organisers invited you in as a press member.

@professorr.54272 жыл бұрын
Many would like to visit, I think. But it's a huge risk to have the general public taste your catering or sit in the seats and say what they really think of the "improvements". No, they don't care what travelers think. 🤐

Recaro economy seat costs 2000 euros?? O gee I realised that is one of the most expensive seats I've ever sat on... 😳
@GiovanniBausC Жыл бұрын
Aircraft passenger seats can‘t be inexpensive because they have to be lightweight to save fuel (which is a lot over the lifespan of the aircraft) and space-saving without compromising comfort. At the same time, they need to fulfill all kinds of requirements regarding crash safety, prevention of injuries, flammability properties etc. which requires extensive simulations and testing, including crash testing at high G loads in different directions.

Hi! When will you make a trip report on board ITA Airways?
@magnustan8412 жыл бұрын
Was wondering where you guys went for about a month or so! Question for everyone, is it a deal-breaker flying with personal IFE? Obviously, they are essential on long-haul flights, but for short to medium-haul flights, could we see a trend of tablet holders in economy class, even on full-service airlines of lights less than 4 hours long? This is of course given the growing ability to download films from streaming services to watch offline. I live in Asia where short-haul flights are ubiquitous and no such feature in sight. I'd imagine the airlines could save a lot of money in terms of fuel and maintenance costs,with no screen, no cabling, etc. I may be talking complete nonsense, but I just want to ask.
@ryleferrer48762 жыл бұрын
this idea is growing rapidly Etihad's newer narrow-bodied seats have removed IFE and just put holders
