I watched GoT when it first aired... waiting a year between seasons... no lore videos... and I had no problem keeping up with everything and enjoying the show big time. It also made it fun to go back and re-watch the season while I waited for the next one to come. Don't get me wrong the history and lore videos are definitely interesting, from a backstory standpoint, but not a must.
