The worst single piece of "advice" I ever received was from an art teacher in middle school. He said that art was a terrible career and that I should go into engineering or law or any other path then take up art as a hobby. I admired him and followed his advice, a choice I've come to regret over the years. As I've gotten older I've realized he was jaded and likely had his own art dreams crushed.
@Marth5922 жыл бұрын
The worst art advice I’d ever gotten in high school was that you have to come up with a reason why you like an art piece. You don’t have to have a reason to like an art piece. You can just like it regardless.
@robdog1142 жыл бұрын
God, the same thing happened to me and I ended up going to college and work an Analyst job. Now here I am, 28 years old attending an atelier during my after hours, wishing I should've done this a long time ago.

Question : Is there a deep meaning behind the birds in your art? Me : Well... If there was a specific meaning behind it, it would probably symbolise the positive and fluffy side of sam, Like how RossDraws has a universe called nema, he said that the each character in the world that he made is a part of his personality, like how one character is an introvert, that character shows Ross's introvert side. In that same fashion, sam may draw birds in his pictures to symbolise his fluffy side. Maybe he feels like his strongest emotion is happyness, and birds, fluffy Birds to be exact are really positive and happy. Sam : *I just think their cute and fluffy :D*

Just going to throw this in here for artists and those that are lacking motivation & inspiration. A manga recommendation that a lot of artists I know enjoyed and found relatable at points is Blue Period (inspired by Picasso's blue period). It deals with topics such as talent, hard work, the various struggles of creating art and trying to make it your career. Even as a non-artist, Blue period was a fantastic read and one of the best things I've come across. It also recently received an announcement for an anime adaptation that's set to release in October 2021, if you're willing to wait. I stumbled across Sam's channel after reading Blue Period and searching up art videos (Round brush only challenge video specifically). I love the content you make and it makes my day a lot better when I see that you've uploaded a video :). Keep up the good work and sorry for writing so much!

To know that you're from Toronto is incredibly inspiring. I've been watching KZbin mixes with your artwork all Covid long while working on my own works (film/game development), and your artwork always provided this atmosphere of a calmer, clearer, and greater future to me. A feeling I would more so associated with places like NY or LA, not with such a boring city as our Toronto. And its just so exciting to me that a Torontonian has created such great works of art, artwork that for me and probably many others have been definitive of our time on the internet in Covid. So thank you.

I have a question to all the artists reading this (if you want to help me) Talking bout talent I remembered that one time I started to draw a more "realistic" grayscale portrait and muy mom told me I was talented, I told her I spent so much time doing it but she told me I was just born with it, it made me a little bit sad because I felt like she thought that wasn't something I worked hard and studied to do. The same happened when I showed her an anime style portrait and she told me to stop drawing those "ugly Chinese things" or my style and getting fully into learning better realistic if I wanted to continue drawing. My brother just calls me a freak for liking anime. I don't want to work as an artist but is a hobby I love and even in a future I may (I'm just a teen) but with those things my family tells me I'm starting to get tired. Should I stop doing anime and my style and start getting more into a more realistic type? Or should I just try to quit art? Love y'all
@azimochaa2 жыл бұрын
Honestly go with what makes you happy, if you prefer an anime art style, then do that, a bit of realism wouldn't hurt but neither of those has to be your limit. Also your mother and brother sucks for calling your art style "ugly Chinese things," I hope they know that's very freakin racist.
@l24ub Жыл бұрын
It might be avoiding the issue but do you have to show them?

Totally draw what you love! It’ll make you happy and you’ll be at peace too! I love drawing anime too!! It’s super fun and super cool!! It’s so hard when you want approval from the people closest to you, but you honestly have to not be concerned about what they think because it doesn’t matter. It’s your art! Draw what brings you joy! ❤️

For me talent is example of my dad. He doesn't practice much, and had very minimal art supplies, but he could painting realistic caricature in high school and realistic animals, good anatomy, with no efforts. My sister had that talent too. Well their "lines" different than mine. Somehow you know someone is good in art by seeing their sketch line. And here I am drawing since child, almost everyday, with good art supplies, with tons of references and tutorial, until today, I'm 25. I can't draw realistic thing like my father did. But I manage to draw well that I got accepted in animation company. I am the only member in my family who end up working related to art lol. My dad working as IT, my sister is entrepreneur student in college. People say I'm talented, nah. It's hard work and passion.
