THIS is the gateway to so much more for my poi practice!! I'm a dancer who recently started spinning poi and definitely a bit frustrated with the lack of flow I had... This opens up so many possibilities, and as you say, MOVEMENT! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this so very well, I'll be studying this video for weeks to come!

I have bought you class, and watched so many videos, but this one "freedom of movement" has be back to some basics to be able to be "what ever character I want to be"... this one, so far has the biggest impact on my spinning...thank you

Woah I was just watching one of your lessons on Udemy and searched for poi flowers and came across this video. Too funny I come across a video from 10+ years ago :) I did not not know that were so many variations of compound circles with poi.... watching you do all the different variations was mesmerizing, you have some seriously mad poi skills!

Wow. Very simply, clearly and succinctly demosntrated and explained. An infinite sheaf of possibilities opened up for me just watching that. Next time I spin, I know I will experience much freedom that following pattern descriptions has never offered me.

@fallenmercury2 жыл бұрын
A critically important tutorial for any person just starting poi. Waiting too long to learn this will really mess up your movement from being stuck in patterns so much. He skims over this at 1:10 but this issue is far more impactful than a poi newbie will realize.

@SkeyeU Poi starter kit=2 tube socks+ 2 tenis balls. haha. thats what i used, started about 2 months ago and just got my first set of fire heads yesterday. And to you nick, is there anything thats physically possible that you can't do with poi? lol, only thing i can think of is a fully isolated 3 beat weave, and even then your pretty close. Gotta say, you've helped me sooo much.

I was hoping you could give some advice. I've gotten to the point where i can handle spin and anti-spin but when it comes to keeping the moving split time something doesn't feel right and sure enough it's not coming out right. Could you explain if the split time is handled more in the wrist and if so how? or if it's in the momentum of your arms in the flower and if so how? Thank you.
@Carmellito115 жыл бұрын
in my opinion the answer is in the antispin thing, because its just this patterns you gotta know to hold the flow wherever your arms are, cause its all isolated, istn`t it?
@meenik Perfectly put; I've been doing poi on and off for the past two years or so, and the rhythm of it (with out without music) is more relaxing than anything else I've ever done. I find that whenever I'm stressed out, a short, slow poi session calms me right down. Also; thanks for the in-depth and, clearly, well thought about tutorials; really giving me the confidence (not to mention the knowledge) to expand my poi-universe. P.L.U.R - Peace, Love, Unity & Respect.

Is playing piano just banging on strings? Come on, you can make fun of anything that somebody else likes. You could say that soccer is just chasing a ball around. Of course it's silly if you look at it that way. People like poi because it's like music in motion.

@rekkuzo87 i also were close to quitting because of all the hitting (heh that rhymes) but i tell you, don t give up, as soon as you straighten your planes and stop hitting yourself, a whole new world opens up for you. Poiplaying really brought some awesome quality into my life. so keep on trying. there are also a lot of great tut vids here, basically everything i learned i learned from theses vids, be patient, hit yourself a lot,... thtas the way to mastery, its inevitable

Just wondering do these tricks work with poi that have tails?? Everyone I've seen do them has sock poi (or similar) and I wondered do they still look good with like spiral poi?
@eskaa17714 жыл бұрын
@NoGumms88 I completely agree that there's nothing spiritual about poi, and I can't pretend I don't secretly roll my eyes at people that tell me it's a path to spiritual enlightenment. I do love it, though. It's fun, can look great, and it isn't any more or less "productive" than most other hobbies.

Did you hear that? That was my mind exploding. I thought some of my Hope skills would translate into poi, but it seems the planes and directions are almost unfathomable. Of course it’s just day 3 with my poi.

watch some of nick's, yutas, or nevisoul performance videos and you will see that there is productive quality in them and they are very creative. I recently started choreographing routines to songs and I would compare the choreography to composing a song or engaging in any creative endeavor for that matter. I ahve seen performances that are like works of art...at least to me.
