Turkey's largest wooden mosque, the mosque Eşrefoğlu-Beysehir, fully 721 years old. The mosque, which is full of rare examples of both stone and woodwork, is like a true tree mosque museum.
The mosque is entered through a 10 meter high monumental "crown gate".
Eşrefoğlu Mosque, with its 42 pillars, is the largest and original wooden-pole mosque in Anatolia.
The mosque was built using only snap-on technique, without the use of fasteners like nails or screws.
The pillars are cedar wood and kept in water for 6 months before being built.
The door of the pulpit, which is carved from walnut wood, cracked and glue-free, is made especially low so that the imam can bow before Allah.
The mosque was built by a master, but probably because of his masterful humility, he signed his work as "Work Jesus".
The ceiling of the mosque has colorful hand-drawn ornaments.
The mihrab is 6 meters high, all covered with tile mosaic and composed of many small pieces of tiles.
The root dyed motifs on the consoles attract attention.
Well, how has this wooden mosque survived for 7 centuries without decaying?
The secret of this lies in the 4.5-meter deep pit called "karlık", right in the middle of the mosque. For centuries, the snow on the roof of the mosque was thrown into the pool in the middle from the space in the middle of the roof during the winter months and moistened the environment with the burning stoves. In this way, the wooden columns were prevented from cracking and drying. But now the snowboard is covered with glass and it has lost its function.
Reflecting examples of stone and woodwork from the Seljuk period, Eşrefoğlu Mosque was included in the World Heritage Temporary List by UNESCO.
