That intro was so freaking amazing 👌🏻👌🏻 that alone gave me the impression that you already were an established KZbinr with a solid backlog and viewership, I was surprised when you came to the heartfelt part and I looked at your channel, really really good editing on this video, I really enjoyed every bit of the video ❤ hope your channel grows and you‘ll enjoy every bit of it Suggestion: for the speedrun talk part you could read it normally and then speed up the audio or put some form of text on the screen to help with intelligibility 👍🏻

I'm not sure if this popped up because I've played 40 hours of Tiny Rogues in the past 2 weeks, or if I'm just lucky, but this was an incredible video. Instantly subscribed. Good writing, great visuals, and a thoughtful look into what drives people to enjoy these types of games. If I had any suggestion, it would be to try Tiny Rogues and see if it hits the points you mentioned here. No need to make a video for it, I'm just curious if you'll like it as much as I do. Good luck with the channel! It is hard, and many fail, but I see a lot of potential here.

This video was absolutely beautifully made and ending hit like a TRUCK. It's always lovely to see people resonate in similar interests, for me it's rougelikes, thousands of hours, thousands of runs, memories. It's by far my favorite genre and I always knew this since it started all so so long ago, I always knew there was something in them, design wise, that put them apart from everything else. Not just "perma death" or "random layouts" while I knew control and choice had a big part of it I never thought about it as much, I always came to the conclusion that the ability of a potential infinite skill cealing was always the main pull, for me atleast. Being skilled enough letting you do incredible stuff, whether it's winning each run, winning hitless, breaking the game and striving to make records, or just getting better... It's an integral part of our brain, we always wanna "be the best" but i think it's more about actually just, becoming better. It's not why millions of people play ranked in valorant, overwatch, apex and so much more but all of those are just, flawed. Player versus player competition will always be flawed, there will be no best possible outcome because you're not playing in a finely made plain with set rules, your playing against other people, it become toxic, tiring and depressing aswell as putting more impact on "being the best" rather then "being better". It's why I loved speedrunning Celeste, Mario odyesse and other games, I knew I would never be the best or have any chance of competition at the top, as much as it felt like I would want to find something with my meaning and calling, to be my thing, I don't think that's really my thing... Just more wanna try everything out and not gatekeep myself to limitations. And as much as looked down upon bragging is, it is nice to once in a while brag about something or sharing your accomplishment, maybe you just got all marks as T lost and you wanna share it with someone and just don't know how to do it, I feel like those are baby steps to just being happier with your achievements then being happy for *others* being happy for you doing those. All of this talk was mostly to compliment risk reward, in my opinion one of the most important aspects of any rougelike. Choice and risk reward go together, neither are above or below eachother aswell as none is a subgenre of itself. Risk reward is what can make those acomplishments, records and infinite potential happen, it's what let's you get that "perfect run" even though there will always be better no matter what, it's what rewards you for *playing well* with being able to *play better* which loops itself in an infinite and beautiful cycle. Undermine is a very underrated gem of a Rouge like and i absolutely adore it because of its risk reward, you have a choice to pick a curse, you have the choice to pick a plethora of curses, increase melee damage, ranged damage, health, gold brought back and more and then it gives you a random curse that gives you a gameplay modifier, it doesn't restrict you, it doesn't necessarily take away your possibilities or your options, it just makes it more challanging to survive. While I have a LOT of hours in gungeon and several completed save files I have to admit... It lacks risk reward, it's jsut good because it's good (which is also why I NEED A SEQUEL FOR THEM TO EXPAND ON THE GAMEPLAY LOOP WAAHHHH PLEASE I BEG I'M ON MY KNEES DEVOLVER DIGITAL AND DDODGERROLL) I only realized ALL of this a week ago. All of these thoughts truly came to me and cohesively connected after I played atomicrops. I purchased it this month and it is a MUST play, not only having difficulty the likes of dead cells and if wanted to higher but it rewards you, it rewards you for playing well and increasing the difficult and your limit, it is an incredibly fun rougelike with a CRIMINALLY small amount of attention and I so. SO. Badly wish it got even more added onto it, but alas, it is an incredibly game none the less and I beg you to play it Thanks for reading and making this sick video, sincerely - some person that got their life changed by rougelikes :) (also it's nice to see more diversity in the rougelike space, especially as a part of it)

BEFORE I WATCH: we have addictive personalities and are suckers for heavily replayable games that keep variation while also riding the insane gamblers high of working for that god run cause its gonna be the next one i stg, along with the desire to see what else is hidden from us, be it items, endings, dialogue or those tasty tasty COMBOS BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY we get one god run that we fumble early and our hedonistic desires drive us to get more of that godly nectar, we think of bullshit ideas and oops is that an energy drink fabricator? i mean i could........ To me, it seems that choice is a foundational element in every game. A 4X game like Hearts of Iron 4 is just as well improved by choice; choosing your National Focus, forming alliances, managing the war front. A fighting game like Street Fighter 6 is defined by choice; when to approach, how to approach, rock paper scissors on defense, making offensive reads. You could describe how choice improves games of any genre. To make this a criticism: it would help if you compared Roguelikes to other genres to clarify your point, show how they have less choice. Maybe we're working with different definitions of choice; many of your examples include emergent gameplay or randomness. If those ideas are key to the video, it would be worth giving them more time and, again, demonstrating their absence in other genres. In one sentence: this video doesn't demonstrate how Roguelikes are any different from any other genre. Very pretty video.

The point was more highlighting how rougelikes with well designed choice are usually the ones that do well. But i agree I couldve talked about how other games fail to provide good choice (like Vampire Survivors ig)
