This video is a huge yikes to me. Villa Pesquera is a historic fishing village, and frankly I find it incredibly problematic and when y'all are casually saying “Just give it a few years and the gringos will buy them all up" when people have been living there for generations and getting priced out. Gentrification destroys towns and secret gems such as Isabela, which you mock at the end of the video. We really, really don't want you ruining our country with that mentality. Educate yourselves about the history of Isabela and please get involved in helping the local community!!

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY but my grandpa was born and raised on a farm in Isabela in Cotto. I want to go back to PR and restore his home, but he did not have a will. I went to a lawyer in town and it seems to be impossible to purchase this land. I want to restore it in his honor. He did not legally leave the home to anyone and we have many relatives scattered throughout the US that I wouldn't even know how to contact. Some passed away many years ago and it seems impossible to obtain all of the paperwork and legal documents from all of these relatives so that I can "buy them out." The house is overrun by weeds and mold..would need a lot of work but seeing it restored would mean a lot to him. If anyone else sees this comment and lives in Isabela....pls let me know if you have any info about the auctioning process in PR bc it seems that would be the only way I will ever have a chance to buy it.

@@natimarivelez you need to find whos next in line sons gran kids ect if it applies to you have proof youll neef a lawyer most likely and then find out if and what can be done. If thete is an avenue make sure you check with all available relatives if they agree to cede you the land get it in writing other wise it isnt real. Once that happens if there isba way then you can go thru the official process. But first you have to gind who next in line even sith out a will it ususaly goes from spouse to children so on. Also get in touch with the town hall to see what the laws are. Good luck my mother had a similar issue vut luckly she talked to relatives and set uo the legal framework to do it all in writing.

I find it so bizzare that you come to an island where you must know people are financially suffering and have the worst time finding a home because real state it's expensive since "real state junkies" want to avoid taxes and exploit the land. Then you feel entitled to be mad when other people do the same in your local areas. It's just exterminating the youth out of the island because you choose to have a "vacation home" where others are struggling to live. Kinda sad, eventually the beauty in the island will end up being a "concrete jungle" more than it's gotten to.

you’re literally parading around people’s hometowns giggling and laughing about all the profits you can imagine yourself making while most actual puertoricans that live on the island year round can’t afford new houses because you keep buying to renovate to resell. do you have no shame? puerto rico isn’t just this paradise vacation getaway, there’s entire local families in need of homes they’ll never be able to afford thanks to this.
@AlexYadel3 жыл бұрын
Fabiana, I understand your point. However, Puerto Ricans do have the opportunity to purchase a house and have multiple programs to help them achieve that. Sadly financial literacy is something that lacks within our community. The system teaches you to not report your cash income to hacienda. This is a key part of getting approved for a house. I will be buying a 60,000 home and my mortgage is going to be $289. I can tell you 10 friends that live on the island pay more for their brand new car. I taught financial literacy in Aguadilla and Anasco for small business owners like barbershops, food trucks, and commissioned-based retail like (clothes). I was raised in a barrio en Vega Alta with older parents who didn't work and depended on local and federal help to feed me and keep the lights on. My mom was able to purchase a house making 4.25 an hour with 6.75% interest and just paid it off in 2020. So I know where you are coming from but the problem comes within our own people, not people that come from the mainland.

@@AlexYadel You are missing the entire point. The big picture… is that real estate agents (be they american or from anywhere else in the world) are coming to the island to buy up properties to make a FINANCIAL RETURN, we are nothing but a big fat, juicy investment they get tax incentives for. They don’t come to the island to raise their families here and be part of the local community, they buy old houses and hurricane damaged homes to turn them into RENTAL UNITS or VACATION HOUSES. Not homes to live in year round like your family and my family has done. Wondering if it's possible to find out from this real estate agent how long it typically takes for a property to go to auction. My grandfather is from Cotto in Isabela. I grew up going to his home (that he built with his own two hands.) He passed away June 2018. I went to visit the home last week and it's completely overrun by weeds and mold. The front door was kicked in. It's ruined and seemingly needs a lot of work...My grandpa didn't have a will. I went to a lawyer to find out how I could buy the land/property..but I would need to get birth and death certificates from many relatives to get permissions and pay them out..seemingly impossible as I don't know some of them...and it would be an uphill battle. I would like to buy and restore the house. How does one get info on the process for buying a home at auction in PR?
