At 5:10 clean up trick is vary helpful. Watched tapers be made and made several, but the method makes it so much cleaner. Never picked up on cleaning from the tip back. Tryed it today and made it much smoother. Thank you.

Excellent advice Roy. We are not judged on how fast we produce a forging, but the quality of the forging. Speed will come, excellence never will if that is all we focus on. Thank you!

Learning on my own has been difficult but thanks to you and Black Bear Forge I have learned alot and because you take the time to share your experience and knowledge I have a solid foundation to build my skills. Thank you for teaching me how to fish Brother.

Great video. I always love your technique videos because you are not focused on, "do this for a one heat ....." whatever type of project. When learning anything it is so much more important to learn to produce clean and consistent results first. Speed will come with practice, but like you said, if you cannot produce a quality result then why bother. Keep up the great work!

This is the first of your videos that I've watched. This is precisely what I'm looking for and I'll be watching more. I like the simple style and the comfortable teaching technique. I'm never likely to forge anything myself but I'm fascinated by the whole process, not fancy camera-work or clever editing, just good quality content. Looks like I've found what I'm looking for.👍👌😁

I recall learning the masonry trade,my boss left me alone.I worked my rear off trying to get a bunch of work done to impress my boss.When he got back he said my work was to dirty,was upset cause it was going to take alot of work to clean the material.I was bummed I said"but lok how much I got done" he replied "yes Mike you got alot done,but when the customer sees it they are going to dirty work,they are not going to say wow I bet he got alot done that day" No they say that mason was a dirty mason.So take your time and make it real nice and clean...speed will come when youve learned enough!!!

I got a CRAZY tip for all you beginnerz out there! It'll absolutely knock your socks off, and you'll be knocking out tapers that are better than you could've ever believed. I call it: Practice. For a minimum of like two hours of practice each week for, like, a few months, you too can actually become good at shaping metal instead of looking at blacksmithing youtubers all day.

@fallencorporal Жыл бұрын
To save waste materials, couldn't you shift from a failed taper to nails or something different before it's cut off? Lesson's learned and tapers are getting a well-rounded practice while loss is kept to a minimum.
