Hellp...I'm confused... you start with a drop step then cross over ...I've heard many coaches say step out first with foot closest to the ball then crossover ...plz help
@TennisHacker4 ай бұрын
There's no right or wrong ways to do things. The way you do the pivot step will generally depend on how wide the ball is and how far you need to move. For really wide balls, it's nearly always the drop step. When pro's do it, it looks like they are stepping out because they also push of their other foot at the same time. How flexible / strong you are is also a factor. The less flexible / strong you are, the less you will be able to "step out" and the more important the drop step becomes.

Too much pointless chat - no action.

People don't need to watch "action" to improve. They need to understand how to perform well structured consistent practice.

@@TennisHacker They literally do need that.

That means you know what to focus on. 😀

Does this approach really work? Sounds too mechanical and robotic. Doesn’t human body figure out how to move automatically once you develop the fitness and stamina, leg and core strength and then decide to get to the ball on time and balance with a wide stance? I’m just asking, Richard. I’m not sure.

Tennis footwork isn’t natural movement, it’s very specific and technical just like the rest of the techniques. Which means it needs to be practiced in the same way. And just like other aspects of technique, it will come easier to better athletes with better coordination, but all top players work on footwork patterns. In my experience your average adult tennis player really struggles to coordinate footwork patterns without the ball there. Which means there is no chance it will be efficient when they are playing. So this is a long answer to yes, yes absolutely it works 😀

@@TennisHacker Thanks. I watched your footwork program which was great. I feel like even when I practice those movement patterns I start moving 'my natural intuitive' way when I play a match. Maybe I didn't practice long enough.

Björn Borg used to count the steps to certain court positions and trained them like ballet. So this is nothing new, except nobody does it below a certain level. Good video therefore. I did something like that when young and very overweight and the tennis court was one of the few places I was reasonably fast. It works, even in small doses.

@@watcher687 yes, practice your footwork until you do it without looking down or even thinking about it. then it will be your natural intuitive way and it'll happen when you play a match. this is how you prepare yourself to hit the incoming ball to make your best shot. it'll make you faster and make your shots more precise, but there's no way to bypass the fundamentals. movement is too important to not focus on.

Who the hell i Shwaytec, mate.... It took me a good minute to figure it out, but I'm Polish, so what do I know... Granted, her name is not super easy to pronounce, but you're missing the mark by a mile, and you should be able to improve quite quickly. Just practice it a little bit 😁😉
@TennisHacker5 ай бұрын
I'm sure I can't pronounce half the players names int he top 100. Luckily, you knew who I meant 😀 Who should be able to improve quite quickly? If you go to any tennis club or courts in the world, you'll see there are lots of people that aren't improving at all, let alone quickly. This is pretty much the number 1 issue I see when players send me videos for analysis. Hence why I made the video to try and help. 😀

It's obviously not a secret. There are no secretes, it's about consistent practice. But that fact that so many people clicked on it is why it's necessary to use titles like this to get people's attention. It then gives an opportunity to actually help people. Then I give out a free program that most coaches charge for. Would you prefer I make stuff up and lie to players about how easy it is?
