Hi Kevin, glad you are enjoying videos. I think I'm lucky to live in dairy country with good neighbours who like to have that wooly grass cleaned off before slurry season. Don't be afraid to ask in your local area...👌

Good video lad I was thinking about getting a few sheep but I was just wondering if there hard to handle and do you need much money with feed and doses??
@sheepschool3652 жыл бұрын
Hi Dermot, glad you liked it. A simple race like the one in video takes all the hardship out of sheep farming. Input costs are pretty small when you are understocked...

Nice sheep, nice video - where are you injecting them, just behind the shoulder or further back? Normally do mine in the neck but your way looked quicker - my sheep know what’s coming so this way would get them of guard 🙂
@sheepschool3652 жыл бұрын
Injecting halfway back, maybe a little further foward. I find there is plenty of loose skin to pull out in that area. Everybody has a different way but I find that works well for me.

Glad you enjoyed video.. It's a simple race I made up myself. Made front and back gate and used 8ft hurdles for the sides when I started, worked ok but easier to fill race with sheeted sides.

I've been keeping some sheep for the last 10 yrs on 3acres i reclaimed. (Borrowed) I was thinking of buying more land so i would qualify for farm subsidies. Do you think it would be worthwhile as i never made alot out of what I've done so far. I just enjoy it?
@sheepschool3652 жыл бұрын
I personally could not see the proceeds of sheep farming paying for the purchase of land. Unfortunately margins are just too tight. A better option maybe renting some ground which would be a fraction of cost depending on what area you are in...
@hammersdad21412 жыл бұрын
@@sheepschool365How much approximately would i receive in farm subsidies for 8 acres with sheep on?
@sheepschool3652 жыл бұрын
@@hammersdad2141 I believe the average subsidies is around €184 per hectare. €74 per acre.

A lot of bother around my neck of the woods with stray dogs, otherwise known as the family pet, which wouldn't hurt a fly, according to their owner's. It reminds me of the joke about a boxer in a ring who was taking a lot of punishment, when he came back to his corner, his corner man said you are doing great the other fella isn't laying a glove on you, to which our hero replied, you need to keep a eye on that referee because someone is beating the head off me.

Problem dogs are a sheep farmer's worst nightmare. Had plenty of trouble over the years but discovered a drastic solution. I always have the shotgun with me and shoot any dogs in field with my sheep. Thankfully the law is on our side on that one.. Dog owners do not realise a short chase, even without a single bite this time of year can cost a farmer thousands due to aborted lambs...
