Yet another great video, Chuck and Saundra. Thank you for continuing to bring the topics we need to learn and grow. You may have gone over it in a past video that I have forgotten but I have a question... I notice you keep the Boar/Sire in with Sows that are gestating and farrowing. When I have tried that, the boar doesn't let the sow feed enough and tries to Hog the food (pun intended lol) - even when feeding at multiple spots in the paddock. Recommendations on how to resolve that issue? THANKS

Chuck, when the pigs farrow do you have problems with coyotes attacking the piglets? And does the premier 1 netting keep the coyotes out? We are just outside of Statesville and there is an abundance of coyotes here.

The farm looks great guys! Are coyotes prevalent there? We are also in western NC, close to Johnson City TN, and coyotes are a problem to farmers here. If so, I highly suggest getting some donkeys. We have 3 and they have done an excellent job of deterring coyotes from coming on the property. We bought our property a year ago and before being able to bring all our livestock over, we heard them every night. Since bringing the donkeys we don’t hear them anymore and have only seen one, which was promptly run off by the donkeys

As I remember, Jordan generally overseeds just before moving the pigs, to allow trampling of the seed. Have you seen any difference between before- versus after-seeding in terms of germination rate, coverage, etc.?

Do you know a grass seed that would grow well if over-seeded behind pigs moving paddocks in woods? Meaning lots of shade. Thank you
@swamp-yankee
@swamp-yankee 2 жыл бұрын
barley does ok in the shade if you're thinking of annuals. I've been doing barley or another small grain, and tall fescue or orchard grass behind the hogs. Really though if you want good grass yields you should cut some trees out. I find the best preforming perennial grasses in shade on our place are the native fescues. I see them in natural clearings in the woods sometimes. I don't plant seed because it's already there. One of my landowners has a farrow to finish operation, and doesn't seed behind his hogs. They tend to stir up native fescue and trefoil.

When you are editing your videos I would presume you have control over sound volume. Why is your voice levels set at 2 and your needless music set at 35? My house is 40 feet long and my wife at 3:00 am is asleep at one end while I am at the other end. If I turn the volume up so I can hear your voice the music blasts all the way into her bedroom like a honky tonk juke box. Of course I am going to get the usual and obvious barrage of suggestions how I might solve your problem on my end. I could get headphones, or sit with my hand on the volume control, or sleep at a different time, or mute the sound and use captions, or the best one last is don't watch your videos (my favorite). But none of that actually answers the question I have, which is; Why do it in the first place? If you feel that music is required in your videos why don't you just sing me a song about pigs when we are looking at pigs. Why not you and your wife work up a little song and dance routine about tractors. Maybe you could do a little rap music for us about baling hay? If you will do that, I promise I will buy a set of headphones and subscribe to your channel. Is it a deal? Art
