Good idea; I do something similar in that I throw non-garbage items in a box and garbage in a bag and then, on garbage day, put everything in the bin for pickup. My can doesn't smell bad either (just my kitchen garbage bin, but it stays closed most of the time; lol). :)

@@bagez1355 The large street bins are only supposed to be for bagged garbage anyway. Aside from a leaking bag, the cans don't get that dirty. I can't imagine anytime someone has an item to throw away they go clear outside to their street can and not just use the one inside their home.
