38:19 - “speaking up” This afternoon, I was thinking about the act of complaining. We have a culture that says complaining is wrong, and it should be avoided. However, what’s the alternative? Silence or taking physical action? We deny ourselves the outlets that allow us to cue others into the state of our internal affairs. When I vocalize to my child that the state of their room is unacceptable, I am giving them warning that their behavior needs to change. How I express my discontent does matter (tone, choice of words, pitch, etc.). However, removing the ability to express grievance is another way to bind the individual. We wrestle with our thoughts and “voice” as if they’re physical presences. Physical but invisible and fully capable of keeping us captive.

Because we adapt and accustom ourselves to the environment, it’s easy to forget that how it is isn’t necessarily the only way it could be. The only law that seems consistent is “anything goes” or “anything given the right course of events can be”. Switching it up is a good way to remind oneself of how very little actually is “end game” no matter how much society and individuals make it appear that if you do “x” then it’s over for you. Somehow, the equation of life equals death no matter how good or bad you are. Let that sink in. So, to gain an upper hand over equal souls, is it possible, you create a world beyond life where only those who “behave” will have access. Yet, somehow, in this world, regardless of behavior, we all coexist within a space. I think the devil is in heaven just as god is in hell

Real talk about ads - you can almost feel that subtle “punch” of an ad that pops on, it’s sort of piercing to the body on a teeny tiny level. If you’re in the flow of a video and an ad pops up, it can ruin the whole flow. Sometimes feels like a jump scare.
