Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday announced that India will have its first hydrogen train designed and manufactured locally by December 2023 on the Kalka-Shimla historic circuit. Hydrogen infra is explosive. Of no strategic use. Just 10 model S worth of batteries can move a train very far. Rolling resistance is low in trains. Aerodynamics of vandebharat are ok and battery electric must be tried.

There's one more very important point. India is reliant on foreign countries for diesel. That means the rail prices would also spike with variations in oil prices. By making ordinary trains electric, we have effectively removed the stranglehold of oil nations on our railways and it is also environmentally friendly. It fits well with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat grand strategy. Similarly, for tourist trains, we have jumped from diesel to Hydrogen because, apart from the reasons you mentioned, we would also become aatmanirbhar by using domestically made Hydrogen. Again we see the hints of Aatmanirbhar Bharat grand strategy in this decision. This government is really thinking much farther into the future than what the public can see and comprehend!

Speak for yourself, anyone not dumb enough knows that GOI is pushing hard for electrification and EVs to reduce oil import bills. India is already electricity surplus state and our grids are connected to Nepal and Bhutan.

If the public is stupid like you then yes its really hard to comprehend simple things. Electricity also needs to be produced, u don't get magically from heaven. And most of electricity produced in india is not from non renewable sources, infact most of the electricity produced for residential and commercial use is produced from coal. And other sources include oil and gas , most of which is imported from other countries. So the government cannot just stop importing crude oil and gas yet because we still need it to produce energy which powers our country including electricity

If developed in-house, best thing would be that they will learn to use hydrogen fulcell technology which can be later used at many other places.

High speed train banane ke liye bi pantograph aur catenary system ko thayyaar karnaa padegaa. That will increase infrastructure cost throughout the line. If hydrogen high speed train can be made, we can save that infra cost. Additionally the tank that need to store hydrogen comparing to diesel can be smaller as hydrogen in low volume can give more power.

The best thing would be to modify the Alco and emd , Narrow gauge series into hydrogen powered locomotives ( after their codal life) , DEMUs as well.. Instead of manufacturing new ones. That would be a better choice.

Hydrogen trains are in there research and development stage, they are not so fast for reliable and need proper maintenance. India and China border is too much of a hectic place so deployment of H2 trains over there is not so practical.

Hydrogen is quite inefficient fuel as some electricity is wasted in creating it and reconverting hydrogen into electricity. It's better to use in factories but for cars and railways direct electricity is always better especially since india can't waste it's precious electricity.

We need proper electrification and good great tracks from which then train will run on its top and great speed 😊😊like eg Mumbai solapur vande bharat express top speed is 200kmph - but it's made to run on 110-120 or sometimes even 80 kmph 😊😊

They just recruit mass labouring whenever a project is being constructed to complete deadline as soon as possible, a viral video exposed this thousands of labours work non stop without all safety protocols though they paid well we can't do this as we are neither authoritarian nor have money like water.
