I'm having real trouble getting info on how the Avid MTRX Studio gets calibrated for Atmos. Are you using Sonarworks and somehow the Sonarworks eq curves are stored on the MTRX? I see UAD Apollo and Apogee both say they are now Atmos IO's but again, still no info and how they receive, store, or create the Atmos room speaker calibration. Thanks

La función de Penteo y Halo sería como hacer envíos auxiliares del track a los diferentes beds? O genera algo más que solo enviar la señal? Gracias por el excelente contenido del canal!

Thank you for the video🔥. Quick question should I put my vocals in mono? I noticed that when I pan my Vocals the volume reduces but when I put it in mono its all good

Hey there! Yes. Always record and mix your lead vocal in mono.

The vocal effects can be mono to stereo but the vocal tracks should all be mono unless you submixed multiple vocals to a stereo group.

Thanks for this video...one question: how do you prepare stems for ATMOS? I mean you print stems without the effect of master bus gear of the mix right? For example if in the stereo mix you use a compressor in the stereo bus , it can't reducing gain in the same way when you print stems cause for example the guitar stem doesn't have the same gain reduction in the stereo bus compressor as while is running kick and snare togheter , so how you can achieve the same sound between stereo mix (with stereo bus compressor for ex) and stems for atmos? thanks

Great question. For my clients I ask for stems with the effects to closely match the stereo master. But without having a master channel in Atmos, it’s my job to re-engineer the song and match the stereo mix before I start creating a Dolby master. You can find out Dolby mastering rates here: www.alexpromix.com/services/p/dolby-atmos-mastering

@@DolbyAtmosMixing ah ok! Thank you so much for the answer!! really thank you! Therefore I have to think at the "master" of ATMOS songs as a complety new arrangement of gears , comps, eqs etc...right? You have to think it more as stems mastering with a dedicated final work in levels for every stems without a comprehensive limiter in action on all stuff? Is it right? And a mastering engineer who has a beautiful console with analogue mastering comps , eqs and all great stuff in analogue has to rethink to use his gear per stem? Could you say that with ATMOS is like this less or more? Kinda better if you make it digital to not over break the bank in analogue and if you want to use compressor to pop up kick and snare you can only use alternative stem compressions in for example sidechain comp job? Thank you again sooooo much!!!!!

Question about using stereo stems. Drums being the big one, I see you are using a stereo file (so LR channels). Doesn't that still rely on phantom centre (especially with binaural) because it is the left side and right side of the room not the centre of the room (where say kick and dry snare would be?) In classic 5.1 mixes this never mattered really because most music just used phantom centre too, but wont phantom centre does some nasty correlation stuff in binaural because the binaural is acting as if its emulating a room with a left speaker and a right speaker and applying physics based on that. I am sure this doesn't matter at all in a dolby room as its calibrated so phantom centre and actual centre speaker are exactly the same (dolby certified has tight specs) but I can imagine on a consumer end that there is a difference between a bed track l/r and a centre panned object.

Great question. Phantom center has to be rethought since phantom center now occurs between speaker sets in the room, including the overhead speakers. Stereo drums still benefit from phantom center although I prefer assigning the lead vocal to the dedicated center channel. This is not always a pleasant sound and needs to be addressed with additional EQ and compression. LR channels in binaural don’t have a negative effect until you engage binaural modes (NEAR, MID, FAR). For lead instruments in a mix, I leave the binaural settings OFF.
