In a storm of swords, when Arya met Ned Dayne, he was desecribed as having somewhat silver hair and purple eyes. In the chapter right after that, when Tyrion first met Oberyn. It was stated that there are 3 types of Dornish men, and Tyrion went on to describe the physical features of all the three. Non of the features matched the description that was given about Ned Dayne, in the chapter just before. Ive always thought that this is subtly hinting at something else.

They are probably descendants of the Great Empire of the Dawn, like Valyrians are. They have Valyrian features, but are not descendants of the Valyrians, which likely means that they have a common ancestor.

After this House, you should do a video on the mysteries of House Hightower and its links to the Great Empire of the Dawn too, with them being Proto-Valyrians who were loyal to the Amethyst Enpress and therefore forced to flee the Bloodstone Emperor's tyrannical rule to set themselves up with the First Men in the reach.
@williamhermann6635
@williamhermann6635 Ай бұрын
Theres no evidence for Hightowers ever being loyal to amethyst empress. Its believed amethyst empress and her brother bloodstone emperor were dragon riders. Well, the Hightowers entire symbolic significance to the story is their opposition to dragons. They built their castle on Battle Isle, which is made of fused black stone that could only have been made by a dragon. Like building on the ashes of your enemies. Then theres story of Serwyn of the Mirror Shield slaying a dragon near what is now Oldtown (probly one of the first Hightowers) Then there's all the treachery and scheming Hightowers perpetrated against House Targaryen during Maegor's reign and the entire timeline leading up to and including the Dance of Dragons. Hightower's Valyrian Steel sword is even called "Vigilance" which I believe to mean perpetual vigilance against dragons, exactly what the Hightower's puppets at The Citadel believe. I find it hard to believe they were ever loyal to dragon riders which would mean they werent loyal to Amethyst empress. I also think Hightowers were already kings in Westeros thousands of years before Amethyst Empress even lived.

I like the idea that the Dawn is psychic and the sword of the morning has to be able to “hear” it. Then while wielding Dawn they know the future and know what their opponent will do next and the sword can help direct them into winning any fight.

I think the "Sword in the Stone" idea is really good, because otherwise it would be pretty easy for someone to just steal it whenever a Sword of the Morning isn't active.
@CrusaderChris
@CrusaderChris Ай бұрын
Yeah if Dawn is really thousands of years old, it'd be pretty hard to believe it never got stolen/lost before. It seems plausible the sword must go back to its stone once a Sword of the Morning dies, and the sword only works properly if wielded by a knight of its own choosing.

Great video!! Here's a theory I can get behind: Dawn chooses Darkstar instead of stealing it There must be some kind of magic protecting Dawn, that's why no one in thousands of years has been able to steal Dawn The Daynes made-up the part of “deemed worthy can carry it”, because they knew Dawn was too powerful and dangerous to be wielded by the wrong person

I'm surprised that you failed to mention Barristans feelings for Ashara and appearance of pain and loss when he speaks of her and her stillborn child. His reaction tells me that the knight who "dishonored" her is either known to him, but someone he was never able to take revenge on (say, Brandon Stark who died soon after harrenhal, or Jon Connington, who was exiled) or even himself in a regrettable state of mind.

I'm still convinced that Dawn is the original Lightbringer. The phrase "alive with light" is only used in connection with Stannis' fake Lightbringer and Dawn, and I'm pretty sure the color of Dawn is tied in with the magic that forged it. I'm not discounting the idea that the metal which Dawn was forged from came from a meteor (bolide), but I think the white color is a result of Nissa Nissa's willing sacrifice. Human sacrifices are tied closely with Valyrian steel, a famously black metal: Valyrian magic is explicitly blood magic, and the smiths of Qohor follow the Black Goat who's worship involves human sacrifice. Both of these groups seem to use less-than-willing individuals in their sacrifices, but I'm pretty sure that in the legends Nissa Nissa willingly gives herself up when Azor Ahai quenches his blade by driving it through her heart. Alt Shift X floated the idea that the Daynes pass Dawn to worthy swordsmen because the next Azor Ahai is supposed to come from their line and they need him to bear the sword. Someone else probably generated that idea, but the point is that there is so much pointing toward Dawn being the original Lightbringer that I just can't be convinced that Dawn is just a cool meteoric iron sword

Love the video. Awesome subject matter. Great Empire of the Dawn is always the best. Yet, I'm 99% sure Raegar and Lyanna got married on the Isle of Faces, and the sword Dawn is absolutely a magical sword. George said as much. Dawn is like a precuser to Valeryan steel, just like the Great Empire was a precuser to the Valeryan Empire

My Darkstar tinfoil is that he is actually Edric Dayne while George was still planning the five year time gap, once he nicked that idea he had to create an OC. Now with that out of the way Darkstar would know whatever Dayne secret that is so dangerous to Dorne, whatever makes Doran think 'hes the most dangerous man in Dorne' and that Oberyn 'should've killed him when he had the chance'. What that all leads to i'm not sure but its probably the one part of the story i've spent the most time thinking about trying to put together.

Many Dayne's married into House Targaryen during the reign of King Daeron II; and maybe some Targaryen's in trade married into House Dayne, before that, no Daynes were described with silver hair and violet eyes.

One Dayne married into House Targaryen (Dyanna, wife of King Maekar, mother of King Aegon V). We don't have physical descriptions for any pre-Targaryen Daynes. And it's unlikely that Gerold Dayne, of the lesser Dayne branch in High Hermitage, is descended from a Dayne-Targaryen marriage, but he still has silver hair and violet eyes.

I find it improbable that 2 lordling knights, a prince and a highborn lady of 15/16 (pregnant half the time) did not need any attendants at some point during their near year long absence. They would have had some basic skills (setting up camp, hunting, meal prep, mending a shirt), including Rhaegar who liked going away on his own, to help them on the road, but once settled they would need help with cooking, cleaning, food provisions and clothes (washing and replacement). Plus, old timey clothes required help to put on, so unless Lyanna was constantly half naked or swapped dresses for britches and shirts, she would have needed help dressing and undressing. If one stops and thinks for a minute, it’s obvious that there were more people at the ToJ than who we think Ned encountered. At least one attendant for Lyanna and one for the men would have to be permanently there. I believe that Wylla was at ToJ, then arrived at Starfall with Ned and baby Jon and that’s why she was believed to be Jon’s mother. While at the same time Edric was told about Ned and Ashara’s great love story. Little Gerold being there is not an unreasonable conjecture considering that the Daynes were probably sending provisions to ToJ and who more trustworthy that a little Dayne? But I don’t know why Gerold keeps that secret after everyone else is dead. Wouldn’t telling Doran and Oberyn how his Starfall kin aided in the disgrace of Elia be in his favour? He could have hoped that the Martells punish his remaining cousins and grant him Starfall with all it contains (including Dawn). Another option is that Ned put to sword any servant he found at ToJ, the cairns hold more bodies that we know of and that’s why he pulled the tower down and refused to tell how to find it, even if it made Barbrey Dustin hate his guts… There is also a case of where and with whom Lyanna was staying in the months between the Turney and her “kidnapping”. Benjen went North to replace his father as the Stark in Winterfell, so Rickard can travel to Brandon’s wedding. Ned went to the Eyrie. Brandon was at Riverrun and travelling around with his companions. But where was Lyanna? She was not with Ned. She was not up North because her father was travelling south alone at the time she was being kidnapped (Bran already was a prisoner in KL by the time his father arrived). Bran had heard about the incident from someone at some point (probably at the Inn and from Petyr who was looking to distract him and save his own skin). There is no suggestion she had been at Riverrun with the Tullys. Was she sent to stay with a southern family to get her used to this different world before she married Robert? Was she with the Blackwoods? Or maybe the Whents? Does it matter that we were not told? Tangent over. However, if Gerold is jaded ‘just because’ this still leaves Wylla as the living witness to the truth of Jon’s birth. Gerold only exists because Martin dropped the time skip. Ned Dayne won’t be old enough to do whatever needs to be done, most likely move Dawn from Starfall. Gerold is not another Edric because that’s not how Martin writes, but he exists for a purpose. And for this reason, I don’t think George imagined him at ToJ originally. Also, both Jon and Dany are much too young to be Harrenhall babies. If there is any conspiracy regarding Ashara’s stillborn daughter that I could get behind is that Allyria (so much younger than any of her siblings) was Ashara’s and adopted by her grandparents as a Dayne (maybe there was a late age pregnancy for Ashara’s mother that claimed her life and Allyria had been swapped for that other dead babe. George denied Brandon Stark having bastard sons. Sons specifically. So, a daughter could an option. Little Allyria being Brandon and Ashara’s Harrenhall baby is the only Dayne baby conspiracy that I could believe in. Although Arthur/Lyanna are my favourite fanfiction guilty pleasure 😊 How The Sword of the Morning is chosen is an interesting topic. Especially considering they don’t seem to be a big family at any point. A ritual then makes more sense. I quite like the idea of Dawn resting in a stone like Excalibur and hopefuls have a go at pulling it out. And the family are simply the witnesses.

"Sword chooses the knight Harry, I mean Arthur." Something to consider. Steel is folded to remove anything that isn't steel. To forge a meteor you'd have to fold it a lot to remove the nickel. This is complicated because you'd also remove carbon making it hard and brittle. The suggestion of a 1000 folds and length of time AA did it supports the idea it was a meteor and required a very complicated process of folding and heating to remove other metals and put carbon back into the blade. Possible rhythming symbolism to support. Brienne takes Duncan's sigil for her repaint. Curiously it's a green falling star or meteor, and further comes from Evenfall. Which ties into a pattern of red flame becoming a green flame that we see in Quentyn and other places. The tower of Joy stuff. I honestly believe theorists ignore Selmy's words and Dany's vision to avoid having to deal with a much less desired truth. Lyanna was already pregnant and Ashara's role was quite a bit more complicated. However, your thoughts on Gerald do make sense as far as that goes. There is a symbolism in the Stark sigil that also gets avoided. Comets were interpreted as wolves in Viking culture, making a wolf a possible symbolic comet or meteor. That and Bran's vision of the white haired women are highly suspect in the context of the Daynes.

But then again if they were trying to keep everything happening there under raps I don’t know if they’d bring in another person outside of Rhaegar’s circle, but Gerold being related to Arthur does make him the likeliest of unlikely people to be brought in.

Not sure about the Dayne's but i do believe that Dawn is Lightbringer. a quote from Ned " The blade was as pale as milkglass and alive with light". Thus I believe its Lightbringer. The person who first made Dawn could actually be Azor Ahai and the reason why the person that wields the sword is called the sword of the morning could be because it was originaly wielded by Azor and he was the one that brought the end of the long night by beating the others. The end of night is the morning.

I believe there are at least two more Daynes in this story and possibly even a 3rd. 1) Haldon Halfmaester. Its common knowledge GRRM picks specific names for his characters. Haldon literally means "half-Dane" in Danish. That cant be a coincidence. Haldon is also traveling with Septa Lemore, who myself and many others believe to be Ashara Dayne in disguise. Haldon could also be Walys Flowers, the old Winterfell maester who disappeared around Robert's Rebellion and is "presumed" dead. A bastard of an archmaester would likely be born in Oldtown which is in the Reach which would make their last name Flowers. I find it odd were even told Walys Flowers' last name as maesters are usually only given one name to help them forget any former allegiances. Its like GRRM is screaming at us to figure out who his father was. Walys was also said to have a Hightower for a mother, another link to Oldtown and The Reach. 2) Archmaester Gildayn. For starters, his name literally has dayn in it. Right in our faces lol. And Haldon goes by Halfmaester which I think means he was fathered by a maester. Half Dayne, half Maester. Bonus contender: Archmaester Walgrave. Just with the "Wal" at the beginning of his name also leads me to believe he could be Walys Flower's father which would have to make him a Dayne too and wouldnt change my mind on Gildayn either (Gildayn just wouldnt be Walys' father but still an important Dayne character, probably Walgrave's brother). This would basically mean Dayne's have their own Citadel faction playing important roles. Tl;dr: Haldon Halfmaester is Walys Flowers and the possible bastard son of Archmaester Gildayn, both of whom are Daynes. And Archmaester Walgrave could potentially be Walys' father and a Dayne.

I haven't heard anyone mention that circumnavigation must've happened with the Hightowers and Daynes that came from the west, From the Great Empire of the Dawn. The Hightower would've served as a watchtower for sailors coming from West of Westeros, and the Hightowers themselves were said to have silver and gold hair like the Daynes and the Valyrians. It was also built using an oily black stone.

Ned had girl with him when he was on sisterton and everyone there believed them to be pair. That was before he had to sign marriage pact so that Uprising can have grteater survival strength by getting Hoster Tully and his Riverlords. Jon is possibly older than Robb because of their wolves are their symbols. Ghost had his eyes open first that's why he went away from the litter. Ashara being Jon's mother make far more sense if Jon is promised hero. He have blood of Ned as father and he is Dayne giving him rights to claim dawn sword when others come. Child from Tower of Joy was Young Griff/Aegon since he dye his hair blue in remembrance of his mother. No Jon and Dany will never Meet. Jon in nothing ever written about him have anything with dragons or south. Jon's story is about North. He will be King of the North and hero to fight against darkness of others. Also visions Dany has in House of Undying about blue rose in wall have nothing with Lyanna. Blue Rose is symbol of starks and Winterfell. They way worm Rhaegar crowned Lyanna with those roses doesn't actually connect them with her. That's a red herring. Blue rose is symbol of as i said North and even King Beyond the Wall Bael who asked for Rose

as for the colour of Dany's eyes. King Maekar married Dyanna Dayne, and as her descendent, Dany could have inherited that trait.

Could Gerold carry the moniker ‘most dangerous man in Dorne’, not due to his famous name and fighting prowess, but because he does possess that secret, and what could happen and be undone if he broke his vow? Doran Martell probably gave him that nickname as a clever nod.

Jon took a vow to be the light that brings the dawn. I think he’ll “bring the dawn” by ending the long night, and he’ll also literally bring dawn with him to do the job.

my theory is that there are so many people who have purple eyes/silver hair because rhaegar (and possibly another targaryen before him) ran around popping out bastards for probability’s sake that ONE of them becomes a cool guy who does a cool thing and might be azor ahai

I'd put money on Darkstar being corrupted by Dawn in a more moral sense, in so far as he will do evil things to get his hands on it then to keep it.

The road from summerhall to starfall makes sense due to King Maekar marrying a Dayne when he was essentially the prince of summerhall.
