You hit the nail on the head when you say "most people know that, they just don't wanna do it." The one and ONLY secret in reselling is this: HARD FREAKING WORK. In my 54 years as both active duty military and civilian, I have found that the large % of people are lazy and don't want to put forth the effort, they want others to do the work for them, or most commonly, they just whine & pout when they find out about the working part. As you mentioned, the super computer in their hand can do LOTS of things, but they just don't want to make the effort.

There was a guy in GW yesterday that told a worker something shouldn’t be on the shelves for that low of a price because it is a really expensive item… first: it wasn’t an expensive item second: even if it was why would he possibly say that? If there is one random guy saying that imagine if there was hundreds more who mentioned something like that and they aren’t even resellers

I was happy when you mentioned one of my comments on your show.😂 You pointed out that my increase in sales was probably more my original listing errors than just raising some of my prices. Which is true, and I have learned from it. That’s why I watch you. You are still a great teacher and I thank you. ❤

I'm not sure what the cause is, but reselling has become WAY more competitive than it has ever been. I used to be able to walk into a sale and recognize one or two other resellers. Now, 80% of buyers at estate sales and thrift stores are resellers, and they know most of the "secret" valuables. Garage sales are different (and better) because not many people are at the same sales at the same time, so it makes for a more equal playing field. I would assume that social media has let the cat out of the bag on a lot of things. I've learned a ton from "KZbin University" as I like to call it, but so has everyone else!!
@Cbgrandtheftauto
@Cbgrandtheftauto 22 күн бұрын
There's two sides to that tho. With more resellers, it makes the market more competitive. Those of us that like to work hard, we will make it, those that think they can list a couple items and strike gold, wont. The average "reseller" gives up 3 months in and gives up due to a variety of reasons all resellers face. The same as with any market. People come and go.

@@Cbgrandtheftauto I agree with you on this. Curious about the 3 month thing...is that a personal observation or did you get data from somewhere? Not trying to be adversarial, I'm genuinely curious because it sounds about right, though I'd think it was a few months more.

idk, i go to estate sales and it's a mix. it still seems to me like there is so much stuff. i like to go the last day when they want to get rid of stuff, because i'm still learning and don't know enough to flip expensive things. i'm finding that someone has usually already taken all the valuable books, but there's still other items that have value and they're wanting to get rid of it.

I encourage sharing. I have been doing this a very long time. 25 years ago I started saying when in doubt part it out. I started saying it more on social media under another handle back in 2016 since then many people have been using the phrase. I even heard you say it. Not saying I invented the phrase, but I never heard it before haha, but in 2016 we started a business selling nothing but parts and recycling. This applies to absolutely anything. We even made a free course where tons of people took it and every single one of them grew their business. One person even 30x their profits. I still do it! I have also been focusing more on the vintage pop culture-type stuff as that's my favorite. Why am I so happy to share this info, Because even with the info, there has to be action. 90% of the people who complain about it are the same people who will not act on it.

I used to run estate sales occasionally and I had to tell people over and over to stop throwing stuff away before I got there. It's all the little stuff - bundles of old pencils, the old Tupperware containers, the ugly amber ashtrays tucked away since gramma quit smoking in the 90's - that's worth selling and that stuff ads up. One sale, I actually dumped out what they'd put in the trash and priced it all to sell. There are people that go to estate sales to buy the mundane and common stuff, too. It all sells if you find the right buyer...

I well remember the Resale Rabbit joke video put out on April Fool's Day, where he pretended to be offering the Resale Rabbit Course and Handbook. The reason this was funny was that you can't package what Resale Rabbit does in a handbook. You have to have the experience, the knowledge, the work habits, and the energy that John has, and this is not easy to get. Kevin is pretty much the same way. He could tell everyone everything he knows, and very few people could do it.

My secrets are mostly boring stuff with a few things sprinkled in that I've learned just from trial and error. I sell clothing, and there's just so many nuances that it's easy to get into a lot of trouble (especially now with so many clothing sellers) with bad purchases. Surprisingly, some of the most saturated brands are my best sellers because I know within the brands what is less saturated and more desirable. I think there's just too many nuances within reselling to make it easily ruinable, and resellers don't give themselves enough credit for how much nuance they actually have learned through the years. Love the vids and thanks for the content!

I have a honey hole. A local thrift store that puts the major ones to shame. It’s very clean, sells quality stuff, always has sales and the prices are crazy low. I went in yesterday and among other things bought like 10 super nice large plushies and when I got to the cashier she gave me 75% off them without asking. I told a friend about the store some time ago and yesterday she told me that she told the people she worked for about the place and I literally told her not to tell anyone else 😂. My place is kind of hidden location wise and I never see a lot of in store traffic and I’m over there every week. In my mind word of mouth will spread so I won’t be telling anyone else lol.

Soon as they started seeing people with smart phones they were looking into it. I had a smart five years before Android came out and so did plenty of other people. Not like today but still they noticed because they thought you were doing something nefarious back then when you used the thing.

@@gregrizzy3326 Plus the goodwill auction site online has been around for a long time. It took them years to build that up to what it is today so they may not have priced up your games back then but other things from the donations were being listed on their site. It just took time for it to become the monster that it is today. Heck they used to use old delapitated buildings for the goodwill retail stores. Now most of them (at least around here) are brand new purpose built for the goodwill industries and they all kinda look the same like it's a franchise. They are pros.

@@gregrizzy3326 I'm lucky because there are other good thrift stores around that sell for a lot better prices. The best one is a place that employs young guys avoiding jail time that were sentenced by a judge to work at like it's probation, and those guys get to price some of the stuff so the deals are way better. If you ever see a Teen Challenge thrift store, or Super Thrift (which is the same as Teen Challenge), go you won't be disappointed.

The problem I'm having, living in a small Southern Minnesota town, is that the employees working in the 3 locally owned thrift stores here, seem to be watching Some type of reseller content, but not enough to Really understand how to value things... I think they stop at Google image search, or maybe just eBay listings, to set their prices. I'm super sad that my honey holes seem to have dried up.😥 BUT, "Don't cry for me Argentina"... A half an hour away is another town with great sourcing, And, here comes garage sale season! Yippee! 🎉 Good luck to you all this summer 🙂 As always, Love your show?💕

At a couple of thrift stores they say what the eBay price is. It’s always ALWAYS the higher listed price with zero sold prices. One of them had printed out a listing and there were zero sold. It was still sitting there 9 months later. It might still be there I haven’t gone back there in a while. That money is supposed to go to children with special needs and their families. They could have sold it for less by now and not wasted the storage with it.

There's another reason why garage sale sellers will not look up stuff on ebay - it's because if they price it what it's worth, it won't sell. They end up keeping it. People who buy at garage sales, whether they're resellers or not, do that because they want a bargain. If they want to buy something at ebay prices, they'll stay home and do that.

I think there are still a lot of people who don't know how to look up the current value of things, i.e. eBay sold search listings. Also, I think there are a lot of people who don't understand the concept of time to sell an item. As for Goodwill, I think they are just so overloaded with volume (in bigger cities) that they can't maximize the value of the donations that they get, so most goods are priced to move. The reality is that reselling requires a lot of knowledge, and most people aren't willing to put in the work to acquire the knowledge.
@CalvinInclined
@CalvinInclined 10 күн бұрын
on the first point you made, people are going to do what they're going to do; some items are way overpriced, and some people are just trying to move stuff. A perfect example of this is I went to the flea market this weekend and went to one table, and the lady (extremely lovely, not hating) would not move on her $25 price tag on squish mellows that you can get on eBay for $18. I offered her $10 and $15 a piece if I took all of them, and she said no. I went 2 tables down where the other guy had a metric ton of them, asking $5 a piece for smalls and $8 a piece for large ones; I told him I was a reseller and asked how much for them? ended up taking both his tables for $500 ($3 a piece) so far into the net revenue of $1,300, and still have 6 trash bags full. Meanwhile, the one lady is just looking at us slack-jawed, which has always been that way. Some people would rather have a quick dime than a slow quarter, and some people can't look past the "value" and hold onto the item for ages. on the second point, honestly, people can have all the information at their service in the world, and it still won't matter if you don't have the "drive." They won't make it as a reseller; I can't even count how many resellers buy. Outs, I've gone to a lot of people jump into it cause they see what we do and think it's easy without knowing how difficult it is. That's just the sad truth: most resellers don't make it, I wish it wasn't that way, but it is. It's the same in everything. Some Uber drivers are absolutely killing it, making 2k a week, and some can't break 500 a week; real estate agents are making 20k commissions monthly, and some haven't even sold a house in a year. That's just how it works. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but half of what we do comes from experience, for instance. Knowing the Pokemon Yellow version for the Gameboy cart only goes from $25 to $125 is great, but without the knowledge of knowing if its a $125 one or $25 one you might very well get burned, not to mention fees, shipping, best places for boxes if you should use bubble wrap or paper or a box or bubble mailer, all that stuff comes from experience and over half will fail unfortunately so that is my 2 cents lol
@blueridgetreasurehunters
@blueridgetreasurehunters 22 күн бұрын
So here is my 2 cents. First, I've always loved yard saling. I used to pride myself on finding cheap Longaberger. Lol. But we didn't decide to try reselling until we happened upon Kevin. He made it look fun, not easy, but fun! So we decided to turn my shopping addiction into selling. But we would have still been looking for those same baskets (not really but you get the idea) if it hadn't been for Kevin, Dave, Cary, etc. Now Kevin has set a min sale, but by him sharing everything he did before, helped us learn what to pick...at no detriment to Kevin's business- as he has stopped selling some of those items because they are now below that minimum sale amount. There is plenty for ALL of us out there. We don't have to be selfish with our knowledge...well, some things are ok to keep just for you, but I'm telling you pay it forward, it will come back around. Thank you Kevin for all you do for resellers. Some of us really do appreciate you! PS...Where's your hat? And how is my Sophie feeling? 💖

I think most "resellers" dont do as well as they say, they make 60-80% of their income simping for likes on youtube. I have ran across a lot of videos pointing things out and I see it more often now. The easiest way to spot that type is if they have clickbait videos and list multiple videos a day. I am a full time reseller. I work 12+ hours a day. I sit down to watch youtube on my breaks. Aint nobody got time to record all those videos 😂

The funniest part is when I watch videos from these people who go to literally the SAME spots and buy the SAME things I left at a sale or thrift store because it wasn't worth flipping and then they brag about how much it "should" sell for. That's how I know these guys are full of it. Most of them straight up lie about the price. They don't show what they sold it for. Some of them aren't even buying the stuff, they're just filming themselves in a Goodwill holding stuff up to the camera and saying "this will sell for X" and not actually buying it. This whole group of KZbin resellers are BS. They want to be e-celebs more than anything.

I have been applying a lesson I knew long ago, list daily. Historically I have been a binge lister: list a dozen items at once, then take several days off. I believe the algorithm penalizes such practices. So I switched up to daily listing. Now when I list several items at once, I save several in draft form to handle the days I slip. As far as Goodwill, they have been ruined (high prices) as a source of product for years. The only good finds I get at Goodwill is at their bin stores.

I keep no secrets when it comes to reselling. Not on honey holes, not on brands or styles. Because a wise older reseller I know told me when I first started. "Boy, there's enough bread out here for all of us. You think the lord would be ok with you seeing somebody struggle and not even attempt to atleast showing him an option of possibly a better way of life?" Ever since them I showed multiple people on what I've learned. Not many of them are still doing it, but for the few? Life has gotten a little less stressful. If I have to keep working my 9-5 along reselling for a while , so be it. I may not have everything I want, but I have everything I need.

I have done a search of online resellers here in Anchorage as I have been reselling things out of my house on Craig's list to avoid shipping but I watch you and others to learn as you don't have to worry about finding out where you go. Shipping costs from Alaska is my main issue. Happy days to you....

Agree...AGREE!! and agree with other's similar comments. Abundance mentality or scarcity mentality? And, even though we do resell (items had already been moved to our new location prior) when we moved, OUR own personal items NEEDED to go FAST - we didn't have time to photograph, list, and then WAIT for the sales...and our moving sale prices reflected that. 29 years of accumulation - and we sold CHEAP - to move it! People kept asking if it was an estate sale LOL! Many kept coming back and bringing people and buying more! I think we made about $300 for our efforts - most items at 10cents - and then we donated three truck loads/with trailer! It's a different mind-set from reselling to make a living (or as in our case pay for university tuition and expenses for our son) and to MOVE and just purge things.

Omg that’s crazy! Don’t listen to negative comments. Just know that you’re helping the greater population of eBay sellers like you said who are forced to look up every single thing and it’s hard to do when you’re walking through garage sales and don’t know what’s valuable and what’s not. I appreciate your show your channel and what you do and Don’t stop no matter what these people say. I’m in California And I’m still looking at tips I get from people all over the country. Competition is the same everywhere and I appreciated hearing what you said about Goodwill and one of your recent episodes because I just noticed on the exact same day. I watched that episode how my Goodwill here is ridiculous in their pricing absolutely insane and everybody’s trying to make money now. It’s everywhere. It’s not because of you tubers. And if they’re jealous, they should just jump on the bandwagon and become on them themselves. I’ve been on eBay for 24 years since 1998 but I’ve never been as serious as a seller as I have the last two years so I’m learning a lot watching you and a few other eBay sellers that also have KZbin channels.

I have 2 honey holes that I refuse to tell others about. 😂. I find for every yard sale where items are marked up to goodwill prices, I find one that just wants to get rid of stuff. Found one last year, young couple bought an old farmhouse and it was full of stuff left behind by former owners. I have a feeling they passed away and family just left everything. I was looking at some bookcases of glass and pottery, lady came over and wanted to know if I would pay $20 and take everything on the bookcases. Hell yeah!!! I’ve made at least $1000 off that sale and I still have things left to go through and price that I can’t find comps on. Just have to stick with it and be persistent in getting out there. Thanks for the content. ❤

Been to yard sales where I am told it sell on ebay for this amount and others where all they want to do is get rid of it. Usually avoid thrift stores anymore because they know what it is worth which is why most of them have their own online store. You were so right when you said that certain items need a specific buyer I have had items sit for a couple of years and then that buyer comes along. I've started being serious about being a reseller this year. I truly enjoy doing this. You are going to get the people on their garage sales that's going to charge their items higher to discourage the resellers. Obviously they're not serious about getting rid of it if that's the case. I've had workers at my local thrift encouraging me to start flipping more. I'm pretty sure their receiving area is stuffed full of items that need to get out on the floor. It helps to be nice to them when you are in the stores.

Most valuable items will inevitably be discovered. The window of opportunity closes at the speed of communication and sentiment. The price usually reduces across the board as the online market floods, while the product drains out of other markets. People have the right to free speech. The DIY community comes to mind. There are people giving poor information and good information. Resale Information typically has advantages to some and expenses to others. Resellers don't have intellectual property so the information they keep privately is often spread openly. Resellers need to market better instead of relying too heavily on brands. Don't sell Classic evergreen items too cheap, they will sell after the market drains. It's not necessary to race to the bottom if you know how to market. Impatience and greed are success killers.

Look Goodwill has publicly said their plans for the most part as they are a charity. Whilst Goodwill online is well known by sellers it is not well known by Goodwill Retail Store shoppers and they aim to change that. You might say they are restructuring. The companies CEO said Poshmark is a better known brand to online shoppers than Goodwill and yes, they completely understand many who thrift are selling at Poshmark, Amazon, eBay... Some of the regional charter Goodwill's been selling on eBay and Amazon for years on end. It's nothing to do with youTube videos, Goodwill is seeking to expand their online presence and restructuring to do just that. Dont be surprised if Goodwill licenses the technology to The Salvation Army or Savers also charitable organization just as Target Retail Online is powered by Amazon. Goodwill, Savers etc are not in the business of making third party sellers money anymore than Best Buy or Walmart is and *THAT IS WHAT IS CHANGING.*

As to the latter question, unlikely that channels injure sourcing from yard sales and thrifts in any measurable fashion. I'd say more videos whereby non-sellers see they can make money cause far far more "Competition" than that of "Oh go buy these!" Retail arbitrage different deal... I'd argue its the #1 reason for The Shop Safe Act as there is not a single word within it to protect those who engage in retail arbitrage or anything outside authorized supply chain due to it. If I'm Sony Corporation I don't want any new current products sold anyplace but via authorized channels, in fact I've *LEGAL CONTRACTS* in the authorized supply chain. If I happen to be having hard times in say my "Surround Sound Receiver" sales output I can just set the subcontractor IP protection hounds to it and whether pre-owned or not... It goes and so will the sellers, now consumers who want Sony buy from a Sony authorized retailer. As I've previously stated there exists ways to deal with counterfeiting and yes, they would require significantly more resources to pursue. Retail Arbitrage is not illegal and never will be illegal as retail arbitrage supports other businesses. "Oh I can't go to Lowes to buy 4x8 OSB to build a garage for these folks as a contractor ultimately reselling it all to them?" Never happen. Even it law were in place, Owner buys the OSB, sells it to me and wella... No arbitrage took place. You do not see Shop Safe Act addressing ANY OTHER venues EXCEPT open third party marketplaces. Will that stop counterfeiters? Certainly going to impact them in big fashion but it'll a be a whack a mole... Counterfeiters are going to flood places all over, including advertising mechanisms... Not going to shut down a two to some say four trillion dollar enterprise by this regulatory amendment, no way, not as long as there are people who want BUY fakes because they cant afford the real deal. Instead, it'll scatter like pounding on a Fire Ant colony actually making it MUCH HARDER to go after. So why then? For the same reason that pressure has existed for 25+ years. Arbitrage. Counterfeiting of software, counterfeiting of "White Box" CD reader/writers, video cards, perfumes which could even be found at Dollar Tree and heaps of other products unlawfully replicated have existed a long long long time online and off! Did we ever see the Senate take up legislation like this? Nope. Not ever! The 2021 proposal said it all, 110% as it'd wiped out all of us who sell by wiping out the marketplaces themselves with indefensible fines. What more intent need be shown? Authorized supply chain has been screaming about arbitrage for 25+ years and for very legitimate reasons and found a friend in the Whitehouse setting this crap into motion. Now lets talk numbers. I was told in 2018 the estimated figure of retail arbitrage via mainstream big retail was at least 40 Billion Dollars and its anybody's guess now but its MUCH MUCH higher. These are the sellers that ultimately will kill off what they're doing and what hordes of other people are doing to make a living. Its COMPLETELY irresponsible conduct. *Its doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, "Gee whiz, I'm using Walmart, Macys, Home Depot and Target to source merchandise so I can make a buck selling it at those companies online competitors and not expect that I and the other tens of thousands who do so are going to kill all of it."* *In fact if the seller goes to the service desk and asks the store manager, "Do you mind if I buy all this stuff to resell it online?" The store manager if he knows his job will say, "No. Its against our policy," and in fact can request you leave. Its called reserving the right to do business. Just like cancelling an order because the buyer has bad feedback.* The fact if Walmart sourced at Macy's being an predatory business conduct never even enter my mind as to why or the harm that it does. If Retailers could source at other retailers and have no price controls every seller in the nation and every consumer in the nation would be in the poor house. "Oh I'm Macys, I'll just send an army of employee's out to every retail carrying Levi's and sell them in our stores for $25 more per pair. See how smart I am?" *THIS IS WHY THE SHOP SAFE ACT* is coming albeit what it looks like and when is up for debate all under the guise of counterfeiting. Amazon has an entire brand protection arm to stop retail arbitrage yet sellers go, "Oh... Who knew what I am doing destroys supply chain and often innocent peoples jobs. But know what? I dont care, I care about my wallet." Well dont be surprised when you're back doing some 40 hour a week job stuck with mounds of products that you cant even sell and of course will blame everybody and anybody but self not to mention the hundreds of thousands of sellers who ARE responsible enough to realize NOT to damage the supply chain channel and innocents peoples jobs. There ya' have it. Black and white. You think Walmart, Macy's and Goodyear and Sony want see Kevin out of business? No they dont. The better Kevin conducts responsible business the more he and his family support buying with retailers for his families personal needs. They want the sellers who are *USING THEM ABUSIVELY* to stop and they wont. So now they're going to exercise trademark law and kill all of it.

Great video! I think that the wealth of online information does have a slight negative effect for resellers. Some thrift stores are trying to sell stuff at eBay prices, which I think is probably not the best business decision for them. When prices are near retail, resellers (and most other thrifters) will not buy the items, severely limiting their customer base. Regarding yard sales, the reality is that many people don’t want to try to sell their household stuff online. Some don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling online, and some don’t want to pay income taxes for online sales. Lastly, while it’s clear that resellers do compete for the same stuff, I think that there are plenty of quality items to go around, and that sharing information regarding sourcing is a positive thing.

Got news for you, thrift stores have overhead that most resellers don't have and need to price the merchandise to make enough profit to keep the doors open. Indianaslim, that is not news to me. I understand that thrift stores need to make a profit to keep the doors open. I just think that pricing stuff at or above eBay prices probably is not the best price point, especially for collectibles, media, and electronics. When I shop at a thrift store, I’m not looking for yard sale prices, but there need so be some margin for profit. It just seems like there would be a reduced buyer pool if resellers would not be interested in thrift store items, If I am wrong, that’s OK. I have other sources to get inventory.

@@voodoopat5518 help me understand, e-bay sets the market value of a widget, thrift store with all their overhead sells a widget at the market price and you believe that resellers with little to no overhead costs should get a discount or wholesale price or risk losing them as a customer, what business with a brick and mortar store can compete without selling at the established price point when the competition is selling online out of their garage? It's my opinion that America needs more storefronts that aren't boarded up and less online sales.

The tools are out there especially with google photos and eBay completed and sold as well as filters for most recent and highest first to develop your eye candy for what is really getting the big bucks (like MCM) and what isn’t. You can never go wrong with being a cheaper conservative buyer in the beginning, for me I only spend one or two dollars per item and I still spend over $100 each weekend and condition is everything these days. To make selling easier you actually need several different platforms to sell on, one is P2P among dealers, two is using a online platform like Esty and eBay or even facebook marketplace, three is having a local booth for your items that are hard to ship and items that may have issues that needs additional explanations and of course there are keepers that you like. Now you could sell out of your house like yard sales and even at flea markets. Don’t forget about donations to your local thrift stores for tax deductions as a business. Keep in mind that everyone likes a bargain so don’t over price your items.

I can see both sides of the coin on like these resale videos on how it may hurt some because some people do see the videos and go all my stuff is worth so much and those are the people that don't want to do the work that comes with having a reseller account that act that way but for the most part when somebody selling something out of yard sale

It's just like you said they know their stuff is worth more they don't want to be a reseller they just want to have a yard sale though a lot of people don't want to be a reseller they know they're they have items that are worth more than what they're selling them for but they don't want to be a reseller they just want to have a yard sale and get their stuff going get the Clutter going so I do see both sides of the argument

Most people who even if you told them exactly how to do everything and they would still be like it’s to much trouble. My local thrift stores are pretty good mostly but the worst one I know will be bad for awhile because they decided to comp everything. It will bite them because most of the local people can’t afford the price. My former boss was a electrolux addict she spent a ton on their mediocre stuff. I agree with retail arbitrage but I do have one place that collectors which I am as much as being a reseller gave ruined. It’s the Edward r Hamilton booksellers catalog and website. They get remainder from every media company you can think of and sometimes they get oop movies that will be $6-16 and easy flip for$100 or more. Used to you could load up and have a great multi item listing. Now if it’s something like that it’s gone the day they put it on the site. When I’m out sourcing I keep my trap shut except at one thrift because they wheel and deal with me and a lot of the time let me make offers.

I hope also that as reselling grows, the market is growing as people choose to buy used stuff online. And I think that's probably true??
