Among a seemingly endless swath of Sonic the Hedgehog content like Sonic Frontiers, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Dream Team, Origins Plus and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't remember, Sonic Superstars made its debut a few months ago, finally delivering on a follow-up to Sonic Mania after a 5 year 2D classic Sonic hiatus.
So, does Sonic Superstars hold a candle to the Sega Genesis classics? Was it really a good idea to release it the same week as Super Mario Wonder? Will I think of some other third thing?
In this video, I ignore all of these important questions and choose instead to fixate on a bunch of useless easter eggs and trivia, probably because I'm a shameless man-child.

Look, there’s going to be a huge race with all the best racers in the world. What a great opportunity for you to show your speed and compete with the other great runners!” Sonic thinks for a moment. He’s the worlds fastest runner, but participating in races is not really his interest. Something on the sign, however, catches Sonic’s eye. Dr. Robotnik, Sonic’s arch-enemy, is participating in the race. Sonic races off into the distance. “Wait Sonic! Wait for me!” Tails shouts to his friend. Miles above the sign, a spy satellite focuses on Sonic and Tails. Dr. Robotnik snickers in delight. “Now that you have fallen into my trap Sonic, I will finally have the Chaos Emeralds, and beat you at the same time. With my new hover machine, and these…” Dr. Robotnik looks to his left, and a row of gleaming eyes gaze back at him. “Nothing can go wrong! Hahahahahahaha…..” Little does Sonic know that Dr. Robotnik has learned of the location of the Chaos Emeralds. But Sonic is not the only one who will be racing with Dr. Robotnik. Sonic’s rival, Knuckles, has learned that Sonic will be participating in a very important race. Knuckles never turns down a chance to be around Sonic when the action starts. And Amy will be there too. After secretly overhearing Dr. Robotnik’s plans, she also will be racing to find the Chaos Emeralds. In _Sonic R,_ you get the chance to be one of the four Sonic characters in a four-course 3D race. Race quickly, but remember to look for items which will help you along the way. And don’t forget to find those Chaos Emeralds!

I actually knew every fact here, so heres another fun fact Christian whitehead and headcanon (now evening star) were originally supposed to work on sonic superstars, but couldn't work on it extensively as evening star was working on pennys big breakaway. Evening star is even listed in the special thanks section of the credits. In pennys big breakaway, several sega alumni such as naoto oshima are also listed in that games special thanks.

Okay 2 things 1.) Adding the infliction on the word "Bonus" the way cybershell does to sorta call back to the start of the video was a very nice touch 2.) I really hope the confusion around S3&K idle animation isnt a real thing cause seriously, and u hate to sound like a smartass here but that has to be the most obvious animation ever u can see his fingers go into the most obvious and universal "i just snapped my fingers" pose ever and the 2nd pose cant be anything else but a finger point like....what else did people he was doing all these years if this is actually mystery to people?

5:04 Tails Doll does make a quick cameo in the Sonic level for Lego Dimensions. It’s blink and you’ll miss it but he is there. In fact if you have Sonic and the ghostbusters at the same time, Sonic will say "hey a Ghostbuster! I saw this creepy doll that kinda looks like my friend 'Tails'. Think you could take a look?” Both games were developed by Traveller's Tales.

Say what you want about Sonic Superstars, but I love the fact that Fantasy Zone was referenced in this game. I would've preferred it being implemented into the battle mode in some way, but still. I also love that the boss of Cyberstation is your custom battle mode character and that Metal Nights is a thing as well as Metal Knuckles, and Mecha Sonic Mark 1 returning.

RE: That clip of reacting to Sonic X Shadow Generations: While I agree that we need new things, "We have Sonic Generations on PC" is a silly response. A Massive portion of their player base are console players, most especially kids with Nintendo Switches. Sonic Generations is, for the most part, locked on consoles whose successors do not have backwards compatibility, and even if they did Sonic Generations on PS3 was at 30fps. A Sonic Generations port makes all kinds of sense. It may not help *you guys*, but it helps both Sega and lots of Sega customers. I have four kids. I am not pulling my PS3 out of its crate in the garage and setting it up for them to play Sonic Generations, nor am I letting them on my PC.

Extra info: Sonic SuperStars bonus stage looks like a comeback of Sonic 1's special stage, but it uses the original Sonic CD's special stage concept before being replaced by the Super Mario Kart inspirated special stage. According with Masato Nishimura (a.k.a. Mazin, that Mazin from that "Fun is Infinite" ilustration), the original Sonic CD's special stage could feature two layers of of rotating mazes, and Sonic should alternate between the layers to find the Time Stone.

random fact but speaking of things left in by the developers if you press W (I think) in the Sonic Mania special stages your mach speed will automatically go to the next mach speed so basically it makes it really easy to get all the Chaos Emeralds. 100% left in by mistake.

I feel like they dropped Orion from the title because they have a similar product with a similar name out currently. Sonic Origins, which is also 2D Sonic. I feel like they wanted to make sure the products were more distinct so grandmas buying games for their grandkids or whatever didn't get confused. That and Sonic Orion lacks the alliteration that Sonic Superstars has so it could have also been a way to make their product a little more memorable to the average consumer.
