Many intermediate players will leave their ball near a pocket in order to keep you from using that pocket to run out. Advanced players run out anyway. This video will show you how to clear up the pocket and run the remainder of the rack.

An underlying lesson in this video for you more inexperienced players is to quit always shooting the easiest shot on the table, often leaving yourself stymied for your next shot then giving the table back to your opponent.

So true. Tackle the problems in your rack early on and get yourself out. Don't wait and see. Plus, knocking in an opponent's insurance ball really messes with them!

Very true every once in awhile I play smart depending on who I'm playing probably my 2nd and 3rd smartest games I've played in the last year because I wasn't drunk my brother in law plays elite league I'm in open 2 games back to back against him bank for a nice set up on the 8 2nd length of the table kick shot I fuqing choked on the 8 both games he had 5 on the table both games

Of everything I've learned on this channel over the past year, knocking in my opponent's hangers and breaking up my clusters early are the 2 things that have made the biggest difference in my game. From the opponents point of view, both of these mess with them so much. When you knock in their hanger, they lose their insurance ball with really ups the pressure on their position play. When you break up your clusters, they either dont get to the table at all, or if they do then they get the table in a position where they better not miss or you likely have an easy out. I now look for the earliest opportunity to break up my clusters, knowing sometimes I'll miss the cluster and need another crack or two at it. I love to knock in their hangers mid-rack to really derail their strategy that they have already spent a few minutes at least workong out in their head. I didn't try either of these strategies for 20 years sadly until i found this page!

I'm famous for leaving the 8 ball and thinking well my opponent can't make it either. I needed to hear that the 8 ball is my ball !!! Now to pound that into my brain.

At 7:34, while I agree you did the right thing, I think the outcome seemed a bit unlucky. So I would have liked to see how you follow up in that situation, since you say you now have 3 very makeable shots but they all look like difficult shots to me. :-) Unless the 1 goes past the 15, even though it seems like it doesn't from this angle in the video. In any case, thanks again for yet another great video.

Side comment: If you get a chance, I'd love to see a video which discusses how high to place your head. Do some shots work better with your eyes closer to the table? If you're attempting a back cut, is higher head elevation better, to see more of the table? Thanks, Brian!

How did I miss this one, great info here! Ever since YT introduced "shorts" the notification system, iffy beforehand, is now broken. I've seen and used the solutions in situations 1 and 2. I'd have never figure out 3 if you gave me a month of free table time. If there's one "higher level" takeaway I get from this, it's not just analyzing the table for shots and patterns *as it is*, but rather what *it can be made into*. IOW working the problem (blocked pocket, ???) backwards, instead of just seeing what shot can be used to solve it (no matter how difficult), see what shot(s) can be used to get to a more desirable, easier solution/shot. I guess this isn't really any different from planning your leave to make the next shot easy but when I see a problem area I tend to attack it with the table I see, not the table that could be. Patience is a virtue I need to work on.

Thanks for the vid! You had a few options -- last and second to last I think -- where I'm curious to hear if you would consider playing safe instead. Those splits worked out well, but they didn't have to. For example, the 7 and 1 could have stuck together. Unlucky I know, but it def happens. If you play a billiard and call safe, you guard against that and open the pocket? Thoughts?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Жыл бұрын
Any situation could call for a safety but that is not the purpose of the video. AND any change to clear a pocket and make a ball is going to be far more powerful than a safety. The safety is the reason players never get through the rack. Play safe on most of these and you will be racking. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments.

00:37 indeed, that's a really stupid rule :) but some of my friends are still really stuck on that rule (of course, they don't play pool regularly, or even make a bridge properly for that matter :)))

It’s been my experience that people who play by silly rules are usually weak players. They are the ones that are most penalized by those rules, which makes them look even more silly. On more than one occasion I’ve told people “you do know that your restrictive rules make it that much more difficult for you to ever beat me. “ most of the time they’re not smart enough to know why. My older cousins used to play by crazy tight rules and not understand why at the end of the night why they went 0 for 30. LOL thanks for watching.
@ericshaw7859
@ericshaw7859 Жыл бұрын
@@FXBilliards I agree that the stupid rules like no ball in hand, no rail after contact, etc, really make it easy for decently strategic players with straight strokes to run tables. It all comes down to playing what the table gives you and using the rules to your advantage for lock down safeties.

I thought it was a foul if you pocket your object ball then an opponents ball. Resulting in ball in hand for opponent ?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Жыл бұрын
It’s not a foul in any sanctioned events, but there are some amateur players that might play with that rule. One of the worst rules some less informed people play with but in 95% of the world it’s not an issue.
