How ironic that right after this documentary, a special preview for the Pixar film that this movie was infamously in competition with comes on.

Antz is 25 today! DreamWorks Animation's first enjoyable animated film An extensive voice cast of Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Lopez, Christopher Walken, Danny Glover, Dan Aykroyd, and the late Anne Bancroft The film teaches a lot about independence and free thinking, what if we don't like our place in society?, we have a choice in this world, freedom of choice is important to us all and not being monotonous, we can use our freedom to be decent, responsible, humble, and helpful, we shouldn't follow orders our whole life Very stellar animation for the time particularly the home of the ants and some good doses of humor More adult swing than your average kids film thanks to Allen being a standout Lots of sharp witty dialogue This did end up competing against PIXAR's A Bug Life that same year being darker thematically But in 82 minutes there's a lot to enjoy covering the American myth of individualism as an antidote to conformity, political hierarchies, and the working class It's never a bad idea to feel free from the constraints of our physical selves as well as ego, it's more of the internal strife that guides us The message is passé but done in an entertaining way

Christopher Walken's voicework was so excellent that Cutter's role was expanded. He was originally a faceless lackey to General Mandible, but Walken brought some unexpected depths to the character. DreamWorks Animation's 1st feature film and the only one released in 20th Century to be fully computer-animated. Starting with Shrek all of that company's subsequent CGI films were released in the 21st Century. Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally offered the part of Weaver. When Schwarzenegger wanted to be paid for the role, it went to Sylvester Stallone, who was willing to do it for free. A reason why the movie has a PG rating is because of casual swearing, an unusual thing to hear in an animated film. This is often omitted whenever the film is shown on television. Woody Allen recorded his part as "Z" in only five days. Woody Allen felt uncomfortable watching Z, because he was reminded so much of himself. This is why he can never watch any of the films he makes in which he has a role. Apparently Woody Allen nailed every reading he did for Z. But he also got very physical in the recordings, ruining some of the takes because the animators couldn't keep up with him. Antz was the first computer-animated film to be rated PG by the MPAA and the only one released in the 20th century to do so. All the other PG rated fully CGI films were released in the 21st century, with there being one or more in every year expect for 2003. Originally, this film was going to be composed by Hans Zimmer and David Newman but they were busy with a few films of 1997 and 1998 so this film was instead composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell. Woody Allen's first appearance in an animated film. Though he didn't particularly enjoy the experience, Antz (1998) went on to become the most successful film with which he'd ever been involved. In the scene at the bar, Z says he doesn't drink from the anus of another creature. In the trailer, the word "anus" is replaced with "caboose". Bala was a lot nastier in the early days of defining the character. Sharon Stone's reading helped to change that, by balancing sass with spoiled, without ever becoming too bratty. Woody Allen was offered accompaniment to sing "Almost Like Being In Love", but he refused, preferring to sing it a capella, and did so. Ants and termites really do go to war with each other. But in reality, ants would emerge the victors, because they would easily outnumber a termite nest.

@@falsexgrindx378 but isn’t that how voice acting works? Actors deliver the lines over and over so the directors get the right one
