The Sitmar Line's 'main man' was one Basil Vlasov who was AL CAPONE's criminal coal runner back in the 20s/30s. The Sitmar (Societe ITaliano MARitimi) huge "V" on Sitmar vessel's funnels was to signify Vlasov in fact. (I used to be a shipping agents' clerk in Southampton & 'we' handled all Sitmar biz.....Fairstar, Fairsky, Fairsea & Castel Felice, the middle two handled mainly 'Assisted Passage' trade when you could emigrate for a Tenner per person but had to pay your own way back IF you didn't like it. (And MANY didn't! It took a very unique character to blend in with the lovely Ozzies…Bruces & Sheilas...personally I adored 'em!)
