The Sega CD would've been a success if they would've allowed the second 68000 16 bit processor to use 256 on screen colors the games would have been incredible!!! But because it was still limited by the genesis 64 on screen colors the games just looked like genesis games with better sound! If they would've did this there wouldn't have been a need for the 32x and they could've just concentrated on making games look incredible!! I think this would've been a game changer!!! Then there wouldn't have been the confusion between the 32x and Saturn as their next gen console!!! Which would have made the Saturn more appealing and maybe a success for Sega!!!! So many mistakes were made by Sega during this time! Which I believe lead to their over all fall from grace!!!! More colors for the Sega CD and no 32x is really all they needed!!!!!!! 🤦

@@steviegbcoolDid the CD system even do anything besides stream audio and a genesis rom from CDs? If so, that's such a waste. You would think such a beefy massive addon like the model 1 would've been able to include something that could at least boost the power of the genesis much like the 32x. In hindsight, Sega probably should've merged the CD and 32x into one in the first place, kept the drawer CD drive design of the model 1 going foreward (without the faulty capacitors), taken advantage of all that additional space, and put in the guts of what would've been the 32x IMTO the CD system. Because the 32x really shouldn't have existed. But I mean... we can just throw that into the pile of other things Sega should've done.
@steviegbcool11 ай бұрын
@@randybutternubs4647 it had some extra graphics chips which is why it was expensive. It added some scalling and rotation effects and little extra memory but it didn't amount to a lot. And it didn't increase the colours so games like sonic cd didn't look much different than the Genesis version.
@randybutternubs464711 ай бұрын
@@steviegbcool Oh, I see. Well that's tragic. But with that said, I'm surprised the scaling and rotation weren't used to make more 3D games. There were some exceptions like Thunderstrike, Battlecorps, and the somewhat lesser known Soulstar. But I wish the CD had more 3D games like those.

I bet that one caused a lot of happy children's faces at Christmas back then. It comes right after a pair of socks or some new underwear 🤣

Looking back at this, it is no wonder that the Sega CD flopped. I used to own one when it came out, had Tunderhawk Batman Returns and Shining Force CD for it and those were the only titles that actually were good at this time. Everything else was already on regular Mega Drive or the games simply sucked :) 300 bucks or so for the cd drive extension and then you only get a handful of titles that actually make use of the additional storage for data.

I was reading game reviews of Sega Mega CD 30+ years ago and they were claiming that appart from the Audio CD and the FMV, there was nothing special about these games that the Sega Mega Drive couldn't already do. I see that they were right. The Mega Driver was a very good system and didn't need much of these upgrades. Sega should have instead invest better on Saturn.

Sega deserved to fail because of the sega cd and 32x

@@parkandharbourcomedy In its time, Sega CD had a place. It was innovative, very few had Audio CD players, the CD medium was promising a revolution in gaming and everybody knew that it would be the future. Sega dared to introduce CDs as a gaming medium 4 years before they became mainstream in PCs. The 32X on the other hand…it was a product that had no place and everyone knew that Saturn would eventually come. Why waste money on a 32X?

My personal selection. These are the only ones I find interesting enough, which I believe truly take advantage of the system's capabilities. Sonic CD Final Fight CD SoulStar Silpheed Earthworm Jim Special Terminator Mickey Mania Mortal Kombat CD Batman Returns Snatcher Flink Thunderhawk Keio Flying Squadron Robo Aleste Popful Mail Lunar Shining Force CD Road Avenger Not a bad list at all, there may be some titles I missed that are cool here and there, but the incredible amount of shovelware, ports from Megadrive/Genesis with little to no additions and FMV based games that came out is somewhat disappointing to say the least for such a powerful add-on (in the right hands). I'm a proud owner of the Mega CD, and I believe that its purchase is justified for Sonic CD, Soulstar, Final Fight CD and Snatcher alone, but Sega should have done so much more. It's unbelievable that the only sprite-scaling thing they released were the special stages from Sonic CD and the boot up screen... If only they had focused on it instead of shooting themselves in the foot with the 32x... Maybe my list would be longer.
