This is so cool because somewhere along the way I got into the habit of doing exactly what you’re describing in this video and it’s such an automatic exercise at this point I’m not even aware I’m doing it lol. I have SO many of these short recordings on my phone dating all the way back to 2016.

And given how good your pronunciation is, I'd say it helped! 😄

I am amazed by your theory since I had the same kind of thinking but in another direction. What I thought is that we have an inner voice in our head to which we make reference. I thought that by listening the voice I want to imitate I will reference it to change it and turn it into my own inner voice. This is great, I think it’ll help changing my own inner voice and not replace it by another.

Hi teacher, I often record myself, and I notice I need to clarify the sounds, I mean I need to vocalise more, but I don't recognize if there is one worse than the other, well, I will follow your advice and will try to identify my mistakes, which it won't be difficult because they are everywhere. Cheers

Musicians are advised to record their playing, too. But for analyzing and hearing mistakes. Here it's another idea. This is where the subconscious has to work. Interesting.

Many underlying mechanics and techniques apply to a wide variety of skills, just not always in the same form. Music and language are both auditory, so there's huge overlap 🙂

Well, yes. Language is externally oriented, music is internally oriented. They're basically two sides of the same coin, two fundamental modes of expression

Hi, I have some doubts here. First of all, should I use the same recording to apply the technique? And secondly, do I need to take one to two weeks with the same recording or you meant that time was applying the technique overall?
@NativeEnglishHacks3 жыл бұрын
The recording is used for the technique. I'm not sure what you mean by "the same recording". You can actually make as many recordings as you want. It's the total length of the recording that matters (which can be one long recording or multiple recordings put together). If you make another recording(s), make sure the total time is again 5-10 minutes or longer. For the timing, it's 1-2 weeks (or longer if you want) with one recording, or whatever recordings you make if you have more than one, again with a total time of 5-10 minutes either as a single recording or as combined into one recording. It doesn't have to be complicated. The goal is just to listen to yourself speaking naturally as much as you can in order to build up a reference in your brain for how you sound. It's like normal English listening (like to a podcast, for example), except you're the speaker and you don't want to analyze it too much. After the 1-2 week period, you can start analyzing it more as a bonus exercise
