No hospital gonna accuse nurses of murder when their patient dies. People die in there all the time. . However, when the numbers of death spike up with all 7 of them died with similar symptom, he was exposed.

From experience in medical compliance, the ones who get the most leeway are the 'Genius Doctor' types. Once someone's got that reputation, they can be incredibly effective at deflecting criticism, even of unaccountable failed care. The part that bothers me is that when you are able to provide hard evidence that their heroic status is actually fraudulent, a surprising number of people in their orbit will refuse to reconsider, using their impression of genius to deflect actual proof that their reputation was fabricated at every level. It never works, because sooner or later it comes out, and all the effort hospital admin put into protecting them makes them look much worse and hugely inflates their liability. And yet, they do.

As a caregiver for people who can't accurately report what goes on around them, I am so happy the other nurse spoke up when she felt it was necessary. PLEASE. If you think your loved one is not getting the care you believe they need, SPEAK UP. There are whole teams of people who just look at things like care quality. Everyone deserves proper care, but it's up to us healthy people to make sure they get that care.

Holy shit do I have a story for you! My uncle was a whisker away from suing a private hospital in Australia because they hadn't fed his dad (my pop) for 6 day's, as well as a lake of a decent fluid intake. He was uber thin and they didn't run any line of TPN (the magic silver bag of Vitamins and Minerals.) In this 6 day period they also didn't realise he was in tremendous pain (he was a tough bastard, a Veteran, a stubborn man). But they barely checked on him and asked him questions. Turned out he had a perforated bowel after a botched surgery. He developed pneumonia twice or even three times, maybe, while there and was on his way home until they "convinced him" to go into a nursing home, somewhere he had said he'd never go. A week after that he was going good and within the last two days of the week he went "downhill" and he died. I know it sounds weird, but he let himself die. Like my nan. My nan stopped taking her ciclosporin (for a kidney transplant) and let herself die. She died quite quickly after ceasing the medication. Which I know can be deadly. I had an Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant and had to take 350mg of ciclosporin daily. Not following this regimen strictly can fuck the graft. After 5-6 months of 350mg I weened off quite quickly to 0mg as instructed by the specialists and I am now, 9 years in remission.

And sometimes you can speak up but it doesn't do any good. My mother passed away in a long term care facility under our 'wonderful' social medicine here in Ontario Canada last month. She had suffered two strokes, one on each side at the front of her brain causing vascular dementia. I could no longer take care of her myself after the second stroke and can't help but feel that I had abandoned her to their 'tender mercies'. She didn't get the care she needed. I fought them over medicating her the whole time. The nurse in charge didn't believe that the tranquilizer used made her drowsy. They gave her medication before meals and she would zone out before she was finished eating. I would visit after lunch in the early afternoon and she would still have food in her mouth hours later. Their idea of physiotherapy was a five minute session twice a week since she was unable to move her legs. The lack of movement caused her pain. Rather than exercise, they gave her pain meds. Every day that I visited, I started out by moving her and making her comfortable. I made them aware that is what she needed but to no avail. There is very little regard up here for the elderly and certainly no quality of life in these long term care facilities.

In Poland, the hospital experience is dreadful. The feeling is that nobody gives a shit about you, nobody tells you anything and if you ask, they often just bullshit you. I was actually relatively well when I went there, I got out completely drained after sitting all night on a bench. But others aren't so lucky and have a much more serious condition, and I'm thinking - how the fuck is someone expected to basically take care of themselves and figure out which rooms to go and whatnot, while sick or injured? A hospital stay in here causes just as much harm as the condition you're treating, or sometimes even more.

I don’t know how I feel about this. We have to entrust our lives to doctors, nurses, firefighters, pilots, flight attendants, paramedics and other jobs when we need something they provide because we cannot do it ourselves. Most of these are respected professionals who are passionate about what they do, so I can understand why people believed him. (I’ve not included police in my list because it’s very uncommon that anyone willingly entrusts their life to a police officer. Most of the time they arrive too late to be able to have someone actively entrusting their lives to the police officers to be protected from imminent death. Anyone else isn’t trusting the police with anything and have been forced into having their lives depend on the officer and his/her colleagues through being arrested and locked away.) But at the same time, yes I find it troubling that so many people gave him money without properly verifying that he’s both a real nurse and that his story checks out. Being suspended is a serious issue for a medical professional here in the UK, especially a nurse since there aren’t enough of them. It would certainly make me pause for thought because what with the shortage, the NHS would be very reluctant to suspend him without a good reason. But it might be different in the US. Though I’m going to nitpick about the title of this video. Actually yes you should trust certain strangers such as medical practitioners or commercial pilots even if they are strangers. You need them.

As an RN, you NEVER touch another nurses IV pump without either A) notifying them, or B) fixing the IV error/replace medication and notifying them. ESPECIALLY in a cardiac ICU, those patients can have insanely sensitive blood pressures. They can be on a medication that if disrupted for even a minute can have catastrophic effects on the patient. And then him having the fucking balls to say it was “a miscommunication”; he’s not wrong but in nursing/medicine miscommunications can be fatal and it seems that this one certainly was. Edit: Wow, I should’ve waited until the end. When I heard a-lines mentioned I always thought anyone touching them would know how to manage and flush them but to intentionally inject them with air to have a stroke is fucking unfathomably evil. Despite knowing my uncle was likely never going to wake up again. I can at least say with certainty that the doctors didn't give my uncle anything that could have harmed him. My mom is skeptical of people. So it shouldn't surprise you to know that whenever someone in the family was sick. She'd arrange to stay overnight in the hospital with them. Depending on who the patient was, she'd takes turns with her siblings (when it was our aunt/uncle/grandparent) or our nanny and our dad (when it was me or my siblings). The amount of horrible healthcare workers out there is really terrifying. I'm sure it's not any more than any other profession, but these people have such a worse impact and I suspect there's a lot more than reported because most of them are probably just abusive and can't be directly implicated in causing someone's death. I'm a survivor of some of them myself and it made me appreciate the good healthcare workers so much more, but it's hard to be trusting when I or my family members inevitably wind up in the hospital.

in the hospital where I work a few months ago they fired a member of the medical staff, in Italy we have an assistant figure who has less responsibility than the nurse and hospitals often hire these figures not directly but from cooperatives and other specialized companies. this person had a criminal record, no one had thought at the time of hiring to verify this. was reported by a patient because during the assistance he touched her private parts several times. hallucinating how the need for money leads people to do any job.

I was in the hospital once and this guy who wasn’t in any sort of uniform (not that a hospital uniform means anything) came into my room and started wheeling me out. He was friendly but his demeanor was odd. He then proceeded to tell me he was going to take me into this side room (in an area where there wasn’t anyone else) and put a shot of something in my i.v. Well, I refused. He was baffled and tried to reason with me, but I was so confused as to the reason and method and manner of all this I continued to say a firm but gentle ‘no thank you’. He did then wheel me back, looking hurt. I did realize later the procedure was legit but it made me realize how incredibly VULNERABLE anyone is when in a hospital. How was I to know what he was doing wasn’t sinister? If he had bad intentions, and if I was in a worse state where I couldn’t defend myself or ask questions, what hope does anyone have in protecting themselves from those types? Another time I went into the ER and the nurses treating me were obviously high on something. They spoke extremely fast, we’re constantly giggly and both had pupils that stayed fixed in a very constricted state. They kept urging me to ask for pain pills and anti-anxiety drugs for ‘’relief’’…I wasn’t in there for either of these reasons, plus they put me on fluids after I said I had bad nausea for a week. Later, after asking them why they gave me fluids, they said they had assumed I was vomiting profusely because I said I had bad nausea. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had never said I vomited at all, just had extreme nausea. They were very obviously on substances- ones I assume they stole from the hospital while treating patients. I could not wait to leave. I’m sad to say I did not report them. I figured a hospital that couldn’t tell their workers were very high might just be in on the fix. They were so obviously high…how could their co-workers not tell? And if so, why were they still working there!? Hospitals are not safe!!! I don’t know how to remedy that except have a family member with you at all times.

It's a good thing that the other nurse reported him immediately and the hospital reacted instantly. Here in Germany we had the horrific case of the serial killer Niels Högel who worked as an ICU nurse in two hospitals and killed at least 85 (!), but presumably more than 100 patients from 1999 to 2005. In both hospitals he was suspected of wrong doing, but they decided to look the other way in fear of losing reputation. Only when he was cought in the act in 2005 they reported him to the police and fired him. There are still investigations into possible other victims of him and some people who looked the other way are standing trial at the moment. As a physician myself cases like that make me vomit.

I've worked in hospitals and elderly care facilities, and I cannot fathom harming the people I cared for. We are invited in to some of the most vulnerable and challenging moments in a person's life, and they place their life in our hands. It is not only a huge responsibility, but a privilege too. It sounds corny but it really was an honour, I can't fully explain it but I am so grateful to have had that opportunity. Due to my temperament I put myself under significant pressure to be the best I could for my patients and team, and I carried the emotions home with me, especially when we were unable to save a patient. This led to chronic stress and anxiety. I was concerned it may affect my ability to give 100% to my patients and colleagues, and that worry just made things worse. I realised I was not cut out for clinical work, and chose to leave the profession rather than risk giving substandard care. I realised I didn't have the right strengths and weaknesses to suit such a job, so I moved into a health promotion role where I could still help, but at a distance. I don't say this to come across as unique, quite the opposite - it's expected that you will put your patients first, and you must step away if your ability to do so is compromised. Sure, there are some healthcare professionals who don't really care, or who are in it for the money, and that sucks, but to actively go out of your way to harm vulnerable patients is unfathomably evil. This will stay with me for a long time.

Then how are you supposed to live life and get towards your goals? I mean, you have to really on other People wether you like it or not. And you need relationship. Becuase we're social creatures. Sure, don't give trust easily, People have to earn it. But it's toxic to have the mindset that People will screw you no matter what

I would like it well known that you were entirely correct in one of your previous videos; "first 60 seconds of the video are the most important". Holy hell, you do fantastic openings.

"I did this so I can get more hours of overtime" Was it really that difficult to just ask for more hours?
@Nylak-Otter
@Nylak-Otter Жыл бұрын
I doubt he would have gotten it. Nurses that work excessive overtime produce much poorer and more dangerous results due to fatigue, which any hospital would want to avoid if they have sufficient staff to cover rounds. Overwork is a great way to cause life-threatening accidents or oversights.
@lavenderoh
@lavenderoh Жыл бұрын
@@Nylak-Otter that's not why. It's because nurses usually get time and a half for overtime and they don't want to pay you.

I quit nursing faster than any other career, 1st school bullied me because I was a stripper and I had to leave, when I had to re-sot tests, pay double and waste years the staff were that cruel I couldn't take watching abuse and left for good. I'll never trust nursing staff again on my life and have anxiety going to hospitals. Idk why this profession for care is so deadly and harmful

Reading the go-fund-me descrip makes me cringe at the line, "suspended by the board for misunderstandings" with no further information or attempt to clarify this weird statement. Altruism is truly fantastic and I have donated to gofundme's for family/friends/etc, but I cannot fathom who would read this and be like "TAKE MY MONEY, RANDOM STRANGER"
