I have to agree. Of all the libravox ive listened to, Roberts reading has been the absolute best heard. Im sure the motherly female English accent works for some books but not a Western. He fits Western and reads smoothly and flawlessly. His accents and inflection held me all the way. His tone changes and pace is wonderful. I read a comment by one reader calling him a nerd. That commenter made a fool of himself and was an embarrassment to himself without even knowing it

I underatand under his various psuedonynms I understand he wrote a book every ten days, (May 29, 1892 - May 12, 1944) was an American writer known primarily for his Western stories using the pseudonym Max Brand. He (as Max Brand) also created the popular fictional character of young medical intern Dr. James Kildare for a series of pulp fiction stories.[1] His Kildare character was subsequently featured over several decades in other media, including a series of American theatrical movies by Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM),[2] a radio series,[3] two television series,[4][5] and comics.[6][7] Faust's other pseudonyms include George Owen Baxter, Evan Evans, George Evans, Peter Dawson, David Manning, John Frederick, Peter Morland, George Challis, Peter Ward, Frederick Faust and Frederick Frost. As George Challis, Faust wrote the "Tizzo the Firebrand" series for Argosy magazine. The Tizzo saga was a series of historical swashbuckler stories, featuring the titular warrior, set in Renaissance Italy.[8]

This is a second book, the first is The untamed. Is there a third book? Is this the third book? I hope someone has an answer. Good books are hard to find.

Great ol’ western adventures........to be thought of in wonder when thinking of how lives were lived a hundred sum years back....🤔

It is an interesting story when the main hero is also a character that needs to die in the end, and the reader accepts it. He dies while you still like him.

The clue is that telephones were fairly new in California towns. the 1890 answer may be close, could be 1900. The answer would be combing through historical records of when those towns listed all had phones in their stores or sheriff's office.

Such a horrible ending. What consequences did Kate's action have in her daughter? Also, what was Dan's intention in the end? Witnessing the wedding seemed to have a profound effect on him, & I suspect Kate "jumped the gun". Terribly sad.

Great book. Shame that the narrator has a self-confidence problem and has to remind you of his name every chapter. But he is a decent narrator that he doesn't stumble over the words and you hear a bunch of breathing like some of the other narrators. If he just wouldn't tell you his name every single chapter and have a little self-confidence it would be better.
