When I was in my twenties I started devouring James Michener's historical novels. I wrote my only fan letter in my life thanking him for making history come alive. It is too bad teachers couldn't do the same. I need to check out this author.

Killer Angels was the first "Shaara" Book I ever read. It's an amazing read. When I learned that Jeff was also writing, I remember wondering how he could possibly compare to his father! Wow, was I wrong! Thanks for having Jeff on. I've a couple more books to add to my list.

I am excited to get and read Mr. Shaara’s latest book. I spent an entire semester in college studying the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the Cuban Missile Crisis from the perspective of the decision making and execution of action. It was formative for me the. And I look forward to revisiting.

There is a "Frontline" episode I think about the Cuban missile crisis. Describes how Vasily Arkhipov would not agree to launch the nuclear tipped torpedo. You can search on line to find a picture of him. I was 6 years old in the 1st grade near Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. We heard the air raid sirens being tested. We practiced getting under our desks and told to get into a legs folded position on our knees, shins with our fingers interlocked behind our neck. But if you left your legs stretched out you'd be killed when the A-bomb went off. Besides U2 there were high speed low level RF-101 voodoo flights directly over the missile sites in Cuba.

I was born on the very day President Kennedy was assassinated. Been enamored with Kennedy ever since.😊
