I had a friend who owned a pet store. The one Walmart in town had a pet section with a few small isles of pet supplies and 5 or 6 fishtanks selling goldfish and a few otehr basic popular pet fish. For whatever reasons, and this was in fairly small town, Walmart expanded their pet section to about 10 times what it was ( they had a whole room of about 30-40 fishtanks and alot more of other pet supplies for dogs and cats than they used to have and undercut the guy i knew until he went out of business. within 2 or 3 months after he went out of business the pet section at that walmart was reduced back to about what it had been previously.

1. Bread store is at entrance of mall, every passangers passby can smell the aroma of bread, it arouse purchanse desire of people. 2. They use product bundle strategy to sell item they wish to clear. To test price sensitivity of customer group To launch A/B test 3. They put small product nearby cashier, like candy, battery, chewing gum. While on the queue up line,people tend buy some small product besides them. 4. Profitable item display at eye level of customer on the rack. 5. Discount merchandise put at the entrance of mall.

In Europe the same groceries are half the price or lower. If anything we're getting ripped off in the US.

I hate when a grocery store puts an item in their flyer as being on sale when it's not. That is deceptive. I know when store that always has bananas in their ad and then underneath bananas it says save big you're not saving big as the price of the bananas is the regular price. There oughta be a law.

That's what I've been saying all this time!! It's all about making money for these grocery giants. They won't think twice about replacing employees with a self checkout!! Do NOT, bag your own groceries, do Not self checkout, do NOT help big companies, eliminate jobs!!

The title implies that people do not already know about the practices. But Aldi is based on a small number of employees who are paid well and everyone already knows that they will be required to bag their own groceries because they are paying less than at other stores in part because of this. And right now there is a pandemic that makes staying open passed 10pm against the law in some places! And the plastic one use bags are illegal in New York now.

They do, but you have to have an ad with you showing the competitor price and brand names and package sizes have to be the same. Many of their competitors no longer do weekly advertising.

I prefer to self check out, people are so rude these days. It is easier to do it yourself and bagging you own items makes it easier to put up when you get home. Not all cashiers are jerks but more than likely they will be. My mother is legally blind, a cashier told her the total and a he did not hear, so she asked her what she said (my mom is also 75) the cashier said it right there, pointing to the cash register total. So I informed her that my mom could not see what she was pointing at and why, she actually made the hmmf noise and never repeated herself. Of course I helped my mom but I do try to let her be some what independent so she does not feel like a burden. So I perfer to check myself out when able, my mom on the other hand does not own a debt card, she says I just don't pay them any attention when they act like that. It's a little harder for me to see jerks like that get a paycheck for acting like that to someone with a disability. It actually took place at Walmart of all places, go figure, in Plaquemine Louisiana.

The only place I don't mind not using a self checkout (they don't even have them) is a nearby small chain. They're basically an IGA with a few locations. The prices are higher, but the quality is significantly better than, say, Stop & Shop. They pay their employees better than the large stores and have been giving them hazard pay during COVID. The employees are actually pleasant to interact with. Go figure, pay people better and they'll be nicer to the customers, what a concept! It's worth a few extra bucks to me for higher quality produce and meats along with pleasant employees.

Wegmans is a family held operation that has been in business for over 110 years now and its business model is based on excellent customer service. The only reason I use the self checkout right now is that I am an immunocompromised person and need to avoid contact with other customers as much as possible.

Please define “record profits” you mention. It’s more meaningful to say what the percentage net is in the end. Typically grocery stores are NOT a very profitable industry, similar to insurance companies. They sell a necessity not a luxury, and don’t need to make a huge profit, like Tiffany’s or Apple.
