I have been in business since I was 18 years old and I have had ups and downs, the ups were high and the downs were very low. I had to close one business that I worked on for years and managed to make it extremely profitable but in 2008 the Credit Market destroyed it and move into another industry. You have the right idea but the 5% equity kicks in after price less the cost of goods sold. Royalty is also included in the COGS. It should be $22-$2.50-$0.25=$19.25 Kevins equity=.05*19.25+0.25 per unit sold which equals $0.09625+$0.25=$1.2125. He gets about $1.21 while they keep $18.04 before taxes and other overhead expenses.
