This has the best example of foreshadowing in any movie ever. When Andy is talking about hope and Red calls it "a shitty pipe dream", and at the end Andy literally crawls thorough a shit covered pipe in order to escape to freedom.

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." I love this movie and I love your reaction. I'm so glad that it gave you a good feeling all over your body. It is about hope, friendship, faith and perseverance. I wish you and everyone many blessings, peace and love for 2022! By the way, the last poster Andy had on his wall was of Raquel Welch in the movie "One Million Years, B.C." The warden called her "fuzzy britches" because she was wearing caveman clothes made out of animal fur. LOL Raquel Welch is 81 years today (born September 5, 1940), and she still looks fantastic!

A subtle thing at the beginning of the movie that is actually significant is Andy's demeanor at his trial. He comes across as kind of cold and condescending. it's why his wife cheated on him, it's partly why he gets convicted and gets such a harsh sentence and why he has a hard time with some of the inmates in prison. On the other hand, it's also why he's able to adapt to prison life and why he's able to carry out a long term escape plan.

@@orangewarm1 Well, for me it is someone who actually WATCHES the film as K.S.O does, becomes invested in the characters and reacts to their situations rather than alot of so called 'reactors' who cant watch a single scene without constantly looking to camera and trying to be funny and cracking some feeble jokes and in so doing, miss dialogue or plot points of the film and then go on to ask why a certain character is doing this or why has this happened... I'd have thought it was fairly self explanatory.

Insanely great movie. It always hangs right around the top-5 I've ever seen. I read King's "Different Seasons" a few times while in elementary school. I was really excited to see "Stand By Me" come out while in high school. This one came out something like ten years later. A super adaptation of a short story to a 2-1/2 hour film. I know nobody who's said they didn't like this movie. Closest thing I've seen to a flawless film.

Another beautiful reaction! My favorite subtle clue to what was going to happen: "The Count of Monte Cristo" in the prison library. Andy even points out that it's about a prison break! Like "It's a Wonderful Life," this movie was praised and even Oscar-nominated but not a big hit when it was released. And, similarly, it was really discovered when it started to show up on television. Soon it was at or near the top of everybody's favorite movie list.

I saw Burgess Meredith in hundreds of roles since I first saw him in the Twilight Zone where he is alone after the world is destroyed in a nuclear holocaust, wiping humanity off the face of the Earth. He was a librarian in that one too, and was happy despite being alone because he had thousands of books to read anytime. Then, one day, he stepped on his glasses, shattering the glass. The last scene in the episode shows him crawling among the rubble of civilization, stumbling and craying "Noooo...Noooo". That episode I saw when I was 4 years old, and it will never leave my mind. And here in Shawshank Redemption, I think he gave he best performance ever in any role. Man, I miss those old guys. RIP Brooks. The Birdman of Shawshank. And your reaction was simply golden! I cried a few tears along with you on this one and couldn't wait for you to see these guys get their comeuppance! Burgess Meredith is a fine actor, but the role of Brooks in "Shawshank Redemption" was played by James Whitmore. Mr. Whitmore also starred in the 1954 sci-fi classic "Them," about giant ants invading Los Angeles, as Sgt. 5:30 The song was probably "Put The Blame on Mame," from GILDA (1946), which is the same film shown in the prison theater later in the movie. Rita was a famous Hollywood redhead in the 1940s, in dramas and musicals. She briefly married Orson Welles, but both were too volatile for that to work out for long.

You really caught on to a lot! A+ observational skills. Having just recently read the short story this is based on for the first time last month, I can say the ending here is infinitely more satisfying.

I’m new to watching your video’s. I started with American History X, then Forest Gump and now this. I love your reactions, I’m so glad that you pause to share your thoughts. Nothing worse than watching a reactor talk through scenes. I find your attention to detail amazing. What a smart, lovely lady you are!

Love your reaction and analysis about the rock hammer being in the Bible. Many people are like the warden, they know scripture and know christian traditions,....but dont really KNOW Christ himself. Which is the only way to salvation. This movie has amazing Christian symbolism if you look carefully. The biggest reveal at the end is symbolic. When Andy, dressed in white, is cleaning a boat at the edge of the sea. Just like Jesus in the Bible. and Red is walking towards him,.....meaning that Red got saved. He found hope/God.

Notice that the outline of the rock hammer is hidden inside the bible starting in the book of Exodus. And when Andy's cell was being searched for contraband, the warden's holding onto the bible, Andy's appearing nervous, hoping he doesn't open the book to find the rock hammer.

@@minty_Joe Greatness. Also the scene were Red is released and talking about he's not going to make it on the outside alluding to, like Brooks, suicide. He peers in a pawn shop window at the guns while the compass is right next to them. Brilliant film shooting.
@minty_Joe
@minty_Joe 2 жыл бұрын
@@DinoNardelli The phrase, "Get busy living or get busy dying" has a double meaning. One, it means choosing between going back to prison versus suicide, and two, living a life on parole versus going to where Andy is now, where he is forgotten (hence dying in character).

What a beautiful, insightful, engaging reaction! Thank you so much for this! And to answer your question from the beginning, "Fresh fish" were just when they got a new crew of inmates. Reeling them in was just kind of a way of saying "You're stuck here with us now." The bet was just on who of the new guys would cry first on their first night in the prison.

One of my favorite movies! There are all kinds of symbolism in it! IE: When Brooks leaves teh prison teh camera angle is outside looking in. (HE never left prison emotionally) When red leaves it is the opposite Camera from inside looking out. Notice what book of the Bible the pick axe cutout was in? Exodus. When Andy is talking to Red in the yard Red says "these are nothing but shitty pipe dreams" ... Good stuff!!!

The script of this movie was so good that Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise both wanted in! However, Tom turned it down to film one of your faves- “Forrest Gump”. He ended up winning an Oscar for it. When a story is good, people gravitate towards it. This movie is literally top of my top five.
