I love your beautiful layout and content. I understand the desire to short switch the one car, as you wouldn't want to make a long shove to spot the other. However, you have brakes tied on the mainline cut and there is no sense in double handling a car. You could have come off with the car that you want to spot ( leaving your train 1 car in the clear), grab your go-away put it on your cut and spotted the load. Better yet, put the spot car right behind the engine.

Out of all of the myriad of subtle details that you have created and brought together to make this magnificent whole, what grabbed me the most was the realistic gentle rocking motion of the cars beginning at the 11:50 mark. I have long been pondering how to do that in a future layout, and wondering if it is even possible to achieve. Please tell me that it was intentional and not merely a happy accident. I am impressed either way, but more so if it were deliberate.
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
Great observation! Cork on plywood road bed tends to produce these results you point out, especially with lighter code rail in this case (Code 70 Micro Engineering Flex Track). This is another reasons why I love the (in close) shelf layout genre and "short line" philosophy. On a larger layout this type of thing gets lost in the larger and broader perspective when viewing the layout. Cheers ~ Boomer.
@TheLoachman2 жыл бұрын
@@boomerdiorama I mainly notice that motion when watching switching operations, but see it on mainlines as well - no length of track is perfectly level. I don't want to try it on mainline sections for a couple of reasons, though, just on sidings. I have been considering very slightly pre-bending each length of Code 55 rail in very shallow waves thirty-nine feet long and alternating them on either side of the track. Some slight lateral deviations might be worth trying as well. I have a good length of Central Valley branchline or siding tie strip that I picked up at a show several years ago. You, apparently unintentionally, nailed the exact motion that I wish to achieve and proved that it was possible. I thank you for that, and for many other inspirations, tips, and techniques.
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLoachman You are correct about shifting siding grades, guage, etc. Grades can change dramatically (1%) which is huge for weighted cars. This is the beauty of model railroading - it is full of pleasant surprises. It is also one of the reasons why I gave up on "N" scale. N Scale is cool but it lacks scale physics in a way only HO can simulate. Then of course, there is my first love when it comes to "scale" physics - "O" Scale.😁

Every single video, your attention to detail is mind blowing Boomer. I spent the first 21 years of my life living across the road from a 4 track main line in Sydney. Freight and city and country trains all day every day, occasionally on a weekend you would hear the good old 3801 steam train working hard to get up the grade. The sounds you've captured are incredible, ive have a few loksound engines which are great, but nothing like what you have configured in yours, with the track squealing and stock clanging. And that's before we talk about the engine noises themselves. Are the sounds within the engine or are some of the sounds added as an audio layer just in the video itself. Is there anything you haven't mastered in the hobby mate. As always thank you and have a fantastic week.

Wow, that was an awesome, and a very immersive switching session, and your camera angles, and editing skills are as good as your modeling skills, not only that but tiny little details like a damaged window shutter in the window of the shack (08:27-09:00), and the miniature security cams on the corners of buildings. And then there are the numerous audio details that add to the immersion, e.g., the clanking noise when two cars are coupled (08:20-). Spectacular editing. Question: I noticed that some of the CN freight cars had the RR name spelled as, "Canadien National". Is that some sort of older French spelling for the railroad? Second, what couplers are you using?
