THE SHEPHERD LEADS US TO THE FATHER | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (April 21, 2024)
We are on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, which is also celebrated as Good Shepherd Sunday. The gospel proclaims Jesus as the good shepherd who gave up his life for his flock.
During the holy season of Lent, which culminated in our celebration of the Paschal Triduum, we remembered and relived how Jesus offered himself on the cross so that we may be reconciled with God.
And now that we are savoring the glory and triumph of his resurrection, we are consoled by our Lord who laid down his life for us and took it up again. The shepherd knows his flock. The Risen One called Mary Magdalene by her name. He returned to the upper room to strengthen Thomas. He entrusted his sheep to Peter despite his weakness. And there are other stories of the Risen Lord seeking out his disciples, teaching them again so that they could become His witnesses.
Friends, that’s the Good Shepherd. He offered himself for the good of his flock. He sought and gathered his disciples again, so that he may lead them to the fullness of life in union with the Father. Let us follow where He leads us.

Our Great Lord God, still hidden and yet so evident and near, we thank you that you are at work in us before we think of asking. We thank you that you hold us by the hand and lead us before we are aware of it. Stay with us in this way and awaken our hearts at the right moment, that we are not surprised by the painful things we experience but can be prepared at all times to watch and pray, trusting that we are not forsaken in the constant strife on this earth. Grant us hope, O God, that the time is coming when all people will hear the proclamation, “See, a new heaven and a new earth, because you have learned to see God’s honor in everything.” Amen.

Jesus way of shepherding is to confine his sheep in the sheepfold.The sheepfold are all his commandments

The good shepherd gospel could have answered CNN's question "What does freedom mean to you Tony Brail?The answer would have been "Freedom is when I can do what I want to do within the bounds of the sheepfold."

To make the word incarnate brilliant as the sun this gospel should not be focused on the shepherd.Rather this gospel should be fixed on the sheepfold . The sheepfold is built by the shepherd by the prescription and proscription of the word incarnate
