They're not all SMT games. All SMT is Megaten, but not all Megaten is SMT. Persona, Devil Survivor, etc. aren't spin-offs of SMT, that was just a strange localization decision by ATLUS USA to put SMT in the title. Of all the Megaten games, even if they weren't SMT. The SMT ones are Mainline: SMT, SMT II, SMT if..., SMT NINE, SMT III Nocturne, SMT Strange Journey, SMT IV SMT IV Apocalypse, SMT V. Side/Spin-Off: Devil Summoner (only the first one), Giten Megami Tensei, Card Summoner, Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, Syncronicity Prologue. Everything else is a part of Megaten, but not SMT.

If it makes you feel better a lot of that time line doesn't work. While there are some loose connections between some of the different series, most of them don't connect AT ALL and were never meant to. Some people just can't accept that though. :P

It’s stated in SMT IV Apocalypse that “God’s Plan” and the demons’ rampage happened in 2013, whereas Strange Journey takes place in 2020, so it doesn’t make sense for SJ to take place in the same timeline as the SMT IV games. It also seems that YHVH indeed created everyone in the SMT IV universe, so that doesn’t line up with Mem Aleph’s timeline. There are more small contradictions as well, like Lucifer and Mastema’s characterizations, etc. I think the SMT IV games are just their own completely self-contained universe, sadly. The rest of the timeline looks good though.

Some novels (special the first Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei) are canon and also the precuel of everithing in SMT. Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner also apart of being the original story of the work, its a diferent timeline and explaind more about the cosmology, Quantum Mechanics, and other things conectec in one way or another in SMT like The Amala Multiverse, the Kalpas/Vortex world, Higher and lower Dimensions ans infinie branching eternal changing Time-Lines/History. Manga adaptations are either, his own thing, aniother version of the same work or separate universe/self containing stories

How the fuck did the Raidou split even works. It's been so long since I played King Abaddon I have ZERO clue as to how that makes sense. I think Akane is alive in the Law Route while she dies in others? In Chaos NG+ Raidou make contact with Luci and trying to get the truth from him is probably led to them featuring in Nocturne. So it seems to me that the 'normal' timeline goes from Raidou I, SMT I, SMTII, then Raidou the XL's actions shifted the timeline to give birth to the possibile-universe where Nocturne took place before they gave birth to yet another new possibilities with Strange Journey, IV, and IV-A in it.

Personally I'd say that you should start with SMT 3 nocturne first, then go on to SMT5 since they'll both be on the switch pretty soon. You can also play SMT 4 first if you have a 3DS along side SMT 4 Apocalypse. The games are fairly self contained so you can play them in any order. In terms of accessibility however I'd say start with SMT 4 since that represents the SMT series best story wise, but doesn't have Nocturne's bullshit level of RNG. Not sure how much the switch version will tweek the balance of the game but if it stays the same then you might want to get into it later.

How is Last Bible a spin-off of MT? The main character in Last Bible is El... as in God. The first game isn't even set on Earth, it's set on Jupiter, then the story is 'loosely' based on the events in the Bible, then El has to recreate life on Earth because Lucifer deletes all existence on Jupiter.

I was only covering the timelines of the video games and not the extended series. A lot of those novels are not canon to the games and I grouped them all out. Pretty sure Megami Tensei as a game has an identical plot to the books (?) so it’s not that huge. Also, this video is almost two years old at this point

Not exactly. Remember that the Amala Network is a multiverse, meaning that any entry can be treated as canon. It’s just that the continuity Atlus is deciding to follow will be the P4G timeline (as shown by PQ and the addition of DLCS in other P4 spinoffs). But that doesnt mean you have to believe that continuity yourself, P4A and P4D could’ve both taken place in the original P4 timeline as the only difference is Marie’s existence that’s only limited to DLCs.
