There is a plot that I have seen in at least three times in old black and white movies - two people check into a hotel, one of them goes missing during the night, everybody at the hotel says there was only person who checked in, the one left. Nobody saw this missing person. And somehow it turns out that the room the missing person was in is no longer there. It's just a closet or something like that. Now I am curious to know what the room numbers in those movies were. In fact, there was a British TV movie from the seventies, and I have seen somebody compare that movie with the Shining for many weird reasons. I think a lot of the dialogue was the same. A blonde woman is left in the hotel, and all staff and visitors say she never was with anyone. Very pretty actress, can't remember her name. Anyway, I just thought of those old movies while you were talking.

Doc - I always thought it was funny that the parents never or almost never call Danny "Doc". They always call him Danny. Most movies have a real Doctor character, or at least most of the kind of movies I watch, do. The Doctor gives advice but usually isn't any help. I have never seen any reason for Danny to be called Doc, except as a cartoon reference, but it makes no sense to call your kid Doc because Bugs Bunny said, "What's up, Doc?"

Back to the Future. The name Doc is constantly used. Obviously years after the Shining though

Good call, I haven't seen that in a while, I promise to keep my eyes wide open next time I watch it.
