Austria is a German speaking country and besides the dub Germany has said Austria was "like" an older brother. Pretty much all the Germanic countries are related in both Hetalia and in real-life (I don't mean immediate family members, just shared ancestor). So Austria, is at most, Germany's half-brother or at least a cousin.

Considering Austria used to be sort of a mentor figure to Germany, maybe Germany tried to say that he was LIKE an older brother figure to him. I know in Japan calling someone your "big brother" doesn't necessarily mean you're related, it just means you look up to them in some way. (I know they aren't brothers, but in real life, all the Germanic nations are related in some way, having a common ancestry with Germania so it might be the same for Hetalia. Like they could be cousins or something.)

As an aroace, a British/German/ Russian girl That sort has some traits like Austria, I feel like he is an aroace and never married the personifications, just noble people with their countries like in real life and I don't like the ships I will rather ship Hungary with Prussia or Poland, they are closer and cuter in some ways and I also think that Hungary sees Roderick almost like family.
