@@alexanderwiles2003 for me capital punishment is flawed and has been proven to be flawed in the past due to new evidence coming to light post-execution proving innocence or reasonable doubt, especially with the advent of DNA evidence. If like in this case there is no dispute of the evidence and or the murderer pleads guilty then I don't see why we couldn't return to capital punishment in those circumstances.

Colin Stagg, who was found guilty of murdering Rachel Nickell in 1992 would have been hanged and he was innocent. So bringing back hanging would mean that innocent people can end up hanged along with those who are 100 per cent guilty of murder, but Colin Stagg was thought to be 100 per cent guilty of murder when he was later found to be 100 per cent innocent. When Colin Stagg was found guilty of murder would you then have been someone wanting him hanged because he had murdered when in fact he hadn't murdered anyone. A few years ago, a woman was found guilty in the Old Bailey of murdering her new born child and it was not the first one that died after being born. She was found guilty of murder and jailed, but it was later found that she was innocent and cot death was the cause of their deaths and she was released from prison as a person wrongly because she was wrongly found guilty of murder by a jury. She would have been hanged had capital punishment been in place. Capital punishment being enforced would mean every person found guilty of murder would be hanged and no exceptions made for some not being hanged, so innocent people would end up hanged because not everyone found guilty of murder is done on the basis of DNA results as many are found guilty on circumstantial evidence and that is where innocent people can end up hanged with capital punishment in place because even though innocent of committing murder they are found guilty of murder. There are cases of women abused by a husband for years who eventually kill the husband because of extreme physical abuse and mental abuse done to them over many years and they end up jailed for murder and you would even want them hanged too ... Those women are more victims not villains and you think its good to hang them as well after being found guilty of murder because capital punishment means everyone found guilty of murder is hanged.

Living in Southport the whole area was absolutely eery! A normal day that turned into an absolutely devastating one. The high streets the next day and following the attack turned into a ghost town, being at work and hearing the sirens everyone knew something serious has happened and to happen in such a small town!
