As someone with mental health issues, that I've had my entire life, I can honestly say that the "services" the NHS deliver and provide are traumatic. So sad that these extremely vulnerable people aren't even getting that... Truly barbaric!

What made them vulnerable in the first place? As a white male diagnosed with psychosis in my early 20s, I've been through those loops. It's not a nice place to be and now I see more people in a deeper hole than what I was. While I was deemed crazy I now believe that actually I was absolutely correct in my assertions that they were trying to kill me.

I agree but also the Criminal Justice system is not fit for purpose. In many cases individuals are punished through probation, tagging or imprisonment for being unwell. Cathy makes an important point that the whole of society is impacted negatively through a lack of care, compassion and generosity.

Because unfortunately due to how stretched mental health services are, sadly often an "extreme" intervention (police being called to someone in a MH crisis, going to a&e for mental health etc.) is required for someone to get urgent advice for mh. I have a diagnosis of PMDD and thankfully ive managed to keep myself safe but it's my worry that one day that won't stay the same.
@MiaMantri
@MiaMantri 9 ай бұрын
When I had a mental health crisis 7 years ago I kept my suicidal thoughts to myself for fear of what would happen to me if I was sectioned. The more I hear about what happens to others the more I feel I think I did the right thing not reaching out. But I shouldn't have had to have kept my suicidal thoughts to myself to keep myself safe.
@RobespierreThePoof
@RobespierreThePoof 9 ай бұрын
Sigh. Having suicidal thoughts isn't enough to be sectioned. A suicide attempt will land you in the hospital, but you still are not likely to be sectioned unless you have very severe additional diagnoses and symptoms. You have to be an active danger to yourself or others. If you have multiple bouts of suicide attempts ... Then maybe sectioning would be considered an option. Mental health professionals do not want to keep patients for any longer than necessary to keep them safe. That's been the philosophy ever since the 1970s (maybe slightly different timing in UK). I hope you never have another episode. But if you do, you should feel comfortable sharing your suicidal thoughts. If they are like mine at all, they go away by the time I finish talking about them with the therapist.
@MiaMantri
@MiaMantri 9 ай бұрын
@@RobespierreThePoof A lot of my friends who've been sectioned have reported some scary things. My crisis was the direct result of discrimination and oppression I was experiencing as an autistic transwoman of colour. Everyone was trying to push behavioural approaches but that wouldn't have addressed the oppression I was experiencing. Now I have people in my life who recognise the oppression I was experiencing as wrong my mental health and belief in myself has improved.

"It sounds like something from another century, really." I couldn't agree more. This is absolutely diabolical like almost everything in the UK ranging from sewage being released into waterways, pathetic sentences for criminals, overly long NHS waiting times and now mental health patients being locked up and treated as if they were people being sent to a Victorian workhouse. All the more highlighted by the difference in care afforded to Charles as compared with ordinary citizens. The goal should be that the healthcare system is so good that royal or not, the level of care be no different. Here in Japan, whilst there is a level of 'postcode lottery', you can actually be treated in an area where that hospital is best in a certain medical area and I can say that I have sat in the same waiting room as former Prime Minister Mori and I'm a very, very lowly and ordinary resident of this country. This is how the system should be. I should say that the Imperial Family have their own medical team and clinic, but they are the only ones and for certain treatments, they too use the same hospitals as everyone else.

The main issue is Involuntary Servitude is cheaper than paying Min Wages - Capitalism is the driver. In the United States, the Thirteenth Amendment forbade slavery and involuntary servitude, “except as punishment for crime" In the United States, prisons can be privately owned. Therefore, it is MUCH MUCH cheaper to pay prisoners 86-93 cents per hour, as opposed to min wage ($7.25 USD per hour) You make MORE money, if you have MORE prisoners. Why not arrest people for possession of a plant? There are people in the states serving prison sentences for marijuana, in states where marijuana possession is now legal. Marijuana is legal in your state - why are you in jail? For possessing marijuana a few years ago...Yeah you are a slave. Just say you are a slave. How else are you going to have slaves? It's a lot cheaper to pick fruits and vegetables and press license plates when you only pay your slave 86 cents an hour. Min wage = $7.25 Prison Wage = 86-93 cents One min wage "human" is the equivalent to 8.4 "slaves" What's the main issue again? What would you rather have 2 people working for you with "rights" or 16.9 slaves doing the exact same work? AND you can punish your slave since they are already in prison.

I AM 22 BUT have developmental and intellectual disabilities to the point where I have the mind of a child. I can definitely be taken advantage of, and HAVE been manipulated, it’s really scary. I’m deemed in need of high support, I can’t get a job, I’m deemed non consenting, I don’t really have the capability to make choices for myself, I’m basically a kid. How I view the modern world is how a child would, I cant grasp super complicated subjects, i can’t cook, I can’t clean, on top of a whole other bunch of stuff that non disabled people take for granted, I like cartoons, I have meltdowns, I like Lego, toys, comic books, sweets, I still believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny (although nowadays watching cartoons are becoming less and less of a niesh I've noticed) I live with my mother who i'd be lost without, im asexual so i don't even WANT to partake in those types of acts with anyone. However mind you, little kids can get crushes too, their just different from adult or even teenage crushes, my first crush was a girl I knew on my street when I was 8, the reason I liked her was because we both liked Lego. It certainly wasn’t sexual or anything like that, it was just a crush I didn’t understand. Even now when I have a crush on someone it’s always in a very non sexual childlike way, I just wanna play with Lego and watch movies and be their for each other. I hate that autism to some people is just “special interest hehe quirky” when their exists autistic people who’s life are ACTUALLY negatively affected by it. Ive seen some kids learn something as a 12 year old but i cant even begin to comprehend it, My father abused me my entire life, he punched me and strangled me when he was angry, he alienated everyone in his family and even when I was diagnosed at age 12 he STILL didn’t even believe I had autism. Not to mention my Christian school would target me for bullying and targeted harassment because they knew I was too timid to tell giving me life long trauma, then had the gull to try and kick me out so they didn’t have to deal with me, which my father blamed me for, My mother eventually had the sense to throw my dad out of the house, which of course he blamed her for. He went on to start a brand new family to replace me. Yeah I had my nana who always cared and mom who did her best with her crappy circumstances so I at least had some resemblance of a support system.

If one Psychiatrist finds the person to be sane then he is sent to prison and not a secure hospital ? This is what happened ( I am told ) to a man called Zac from Cambridge after strangling a house resident. He spent most of his time hidden under his bedding in his room and the staff at his home knew that he was extremely mentally ill, He had also lost both his parents due to drug addiction.Why was he sent to prison ? How about you vote in people that will help the country in all areas because whether the asylum seekers come or not we still have cost of living....foreign wars...lack of mentle health care the list goes on

Most asylum seekers have enough money in their homes to pay the smugglers thousands to come here. Geniune asylum seekers never make it here.

30 days in armley prison did my head right in , a day in there feels likes three days outside . Locked ina toilet with a another dude and a bunk beds two hard chairs and a table packed in a tiny cell for 23 hours a day's and all day Saturday and Sunday with a salad sandwich for Sunday dinner / tea . It's one big boring head f##k .. and I only did 30 days and I think they let me out two days early because no release on the weekend so let you out Friday if your release day is a weekend day . That was 2010 and I still have awful dreams that am back in there . I wake up and realise am at home and it was a dream my mind is flooded with relt that it just a dream . But the effect is real to the mind and body because my heart beat is racing untill the reality comes that am home ,,,, chill .

What made them vulnerable in the first place? First class destitution with no potential in life is a major factor. As a white male diagnosed with psychosis in my early 20s, I've been through those loops. It's not a nice place to be and now I see more people in a deeper hole than what I was. I now see my friends being hit with the same thing 10 years on. While I was deemed crazy I now believe that actually I was absolutely correct in my assertions that they were trying to kill me.

Too many things wrong with this, but also causality. Dysfunctional soceity is made of dysfuctional families. I am sure there are parallels in root causes of these mental issues.

People with these issues do need help but if there are no beds then prison is an option to keep these people away from the public. Unfortunately the UK government at this time are more concerned with keeping the illegal immigrants happy. The UK government are the problem. They always have been. Your votes are stopping these people getting help.

And that situation may get worse. I lived and worked in the Middle East where I notice a high incidence of mental health issues, birth defects and disability. Further research revealed that this is due to the marrying of first cousins which is permitted under Islam . Jordan has actually outlawed the practice which has also resulted in the average IQ being only 82.
