In 1500 the Netherlands didn't have the same shape as today. Much of its present surface is gained from the sea. You should check your map!

True: the province of Flevoland didn't exist until 1983, and parts of North, and South Holland, and Zeeland were below sea level back in 1500.

Some of the (film) material used is not of The Netherlands. 70 million should indeed be, as mentioned by others, 17 million. And next to importing goods from China, Japan, Indonesia and some other foreign countries, the WIC was also known for the slave trade (like England, Spain, Portugal and Africa itself)

The speed of content making makes it obvious that there are mistakes, I guess. But they clearly believed that this was footage of a rich, vibrant, and industrial city, so in a way, it's a compliment! :)

I think you also forget that wages were quit high in the netherlands so to counter that aggriculture needed to be more efficient for otherwise our goods would become unsellable. Using only 5 liter of water for tomatoes instead of 30 in the u.s. also makes the product cheaper and easier to produce in not so water rich environments.

@@geocentricity9 trade was most lucrativ in the Baltics. Colonialism only occured in the 19th-century when the Netherlands did not become rich of that because it was at it poorest than. the Dutch republic was free of slaves while slavery was strongly forbidden. Slave-trade was globally EVERYWHERE and yes the English, French, Dutch African, Muslims all participated. The golden age in The Netherlands became rich because of the amount of scientific inventions which they exported and made the Netherlands famous in those days. It was the first country whithout any authoritarian nobolity. (Republic !!)

Whoever, or whatever, created the script and its delivery needs a makeover. "48,000 dollars more than" is very different from "48,000 dollars, more than". Robot speech has its place but you need to tweak it. Quality control!

No. Dutch colonialism started in the 19th century when The Netherlands was at its poorest. Inventions from-on the beginning of the 16-hundreds and trade especially in the baltics made the state Dutch Republic rich indeed.
