I believe Yearn is named Slimshoes in China, I've visited their shop in Chengdu, great brand. They can actually add some foam under the sockliner for more cushionning within their MTO program, which for me is a great feature.

May be the best unboxing yet for a new brand! Love the shape as well. I'm so glad these shoemakers contact you and you in turn make us aware of them. Thanks so much. I checked out the website and as you suspected they do offer 2 levels of MTO. 1st level has a $50 upcharge from RTW and the 2nd level starts at $1000 USD.

Thank you for sharing and glad that you liked the video. The next level MTO is really good stuff if it is the one I am thinking. Nearly like bespoke.

@@danbee415 Yes I have. I've done both GMTO and MTO. I feel where you're coming from because it's difficult when you don't have multiple examples of the same style you're looking at. The MTO page on the website shows all the customizing options and it's hard to picture the finished shoe with all the options. That's why I kept it simple on my 1st MTO pair and just chose the last and color I liked. Browsing the entire collection will help you narrow down the materials and colors. For the finer details, you'll just have to use your imagination and consider what you would want to see on your shoes. Well worth the effort tho :)

Thorough, as usual. Thanks, Justin. In terms of leather quality, which would you pick? Yearn, Septieme Largeur, Altan, TLB, or your own brand? I'm branching out of English shoemakers. Thanks in advance.

Hi Justin, in terms of sizing would you say your normal UK size is comfortable? I have seen advice to size up by half one's GG/EG size.
@theshoesnob_official2 жыл бұрын
I can only speak for this shoe. The last was long and generous in the width but narrow in the heel and forefoot. I suppose part of that is due to the model and needing to be secure in something without laces. But no way to size up from G&G. I wear UK7 in G&G and the UK7 in these would have been huge, at least in length and forefoot space

Nice unboxing as usual. Wonderful shoes. They have a test-run website available now. One question: what feature/proof to look for to confirm the shoe is handwelted? ;)
@theshoesnob_official3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate it. Handwelted shoes will have dimples in the insole from the awl that is use to punched the holes in the rib as well as nail markings from the holding down the insole when welting. Also from the pulling tight of the thread which also makes further dimpling. A machine welted shoe will be clean looking. A handwelted one will not be.

Hi Justin! I noticed you don't use shell cordovan at all in your collection. Is it fair to say that you don't like it as an upper material for shoes? If that's the case, why? 😊
@theshoesnob_official3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I like it. But I am not crazy about it. Shell is not that easy to acquire, good ones that is, and it is quite expensive meaning potential risk of stock sitting there i.e. money. I dont feel the need to offer it when so many other brands have that on lock. I prefer to focus on my specialities.

My pleasure! Its hard to say to be honest. The forefoot and length is generous in this model. But the instep and heel area was low. But that might due to it being a lazyman so the instep must be low to keep people in the shoes.

Had the same feeling about boots with the hideous zipper on the inside. Never liked the look until I bought a pair in a thrift shop and realized the amount of time you save simply using the zipper.

great review, and great shoes indeed, the characters on the tissue paper "中國製" or "中国制" mean "Made in China". their shoes are fully handmade with hand stitched outsole, I believe the fudging on the welt has a purpose of marking the stitching, hence it is relatively deep and loose compare to those fine fudge marks for aesthetic purposes on machine made shoes

I believe we should promote shoes, and all other stuff, produced by our local factories, whether they are American, European, Asian, Australian or African. Great to see Chinese people can make beautiful shoes, but I will not buy them because I care of local tradition, local employment and believe buying a pair of shoes made at the other end of the planet is not a responsible decision
@theshoesnob_official3 жыл бұрын
Thats a noble cause and understandable. Buying local is important. The flipside is not everyone has local or their local is no good. Be blessed to have a good local economy to support in the shoe trade.
@TJ-wo6kg3 жыл бұрын
@@theshoesnob_official Agree, but if we/you are supporting our local factories and people, we/you should stop giving visibility to those exotic brands. They don't buy anything of our shoes or whatever consumer goods produced in Europe or America. I do own higher end English, French, Spanish and Italian shoes, which cost a lot of money, but I am so happy to support them in their battle against competitors whose employees are treated like animals. This is more a political than a shoe discussion, but it starts with all of us, at our very small level of business responsibility
@theshoesnob_official3 жыл бұрын
@@TJ-wo6kg sorry this I cannot agree on. I am not political when it comes to footwear. I support craftsmanship before anything. I am not talking about Nike here. These are small workshops and you do not know how they are treated. You only speculate because of what is going on in Fortune 100 corporations. Apples and oranges
@valdencorr2861 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I would rather spend more for a shoe made by an artisan in Italy or England than some Chinese slave working for pennies in China. It is naïve of the Shoe Snob to assume that the Chinese employee making these shoes is making a decent living when these HANDMADE shoes are labor intensive and CHEAP. How can they afford to undercut the European competition? By paying their labor pennies, simple.
